It was good but man several parts of the movie made no sense

Movie seemed more focused on cool moments rather than narrative coherence

But I love that both Andrew and Tobey found redemption in ways that didn't feel forced and flowed in the movie well.

It would have made more sense if it came out after Dr. Strange 2 like it was supposed to. America Chavez was supposed to be the one who tried to help Peter and screwed up the spell. She was also supposed to open portals to the other Spider-Mens universes to let them through, instead of them randomly being transported along with the villains and then Ned learns magic to teleport them.

Why did Sandman join the villains? Not only does he not die, not pressing the button means he never sees his daughter which is his entire motivation

He also had zero reason to attack Holland at the start and not believe Tobey at the end

Why did nobody notice that 2 new spidermen were bumming about town for 2 days when all the news was about Spiderman?

Why did Dr Ock just vanish when the villains ran off? He literally just disappeared?

How did MJ know that Tobey and Andrew were the only Spidermen from other universes?

Why did all the villains just wander off and do absolutely nothing after their big dramatic Gods speech?

Also just the ability to whip up "Instantly revert all villains" syringes for everyone inside 7 minutes

Sure Andrew curing Connor made sense but Goblin? Electro? Sandman? wut...

As I said it was great to see the gang and tons of cool moments but man it was a plot mess

Plus it had like 4 endings

The movie was just a fanservice and nostalgia bait affair. It didnt need a good plot, just a bunch of callbacks.

To be fair it did more than just callbacks

I think Andrew saving MJ and Tobey saving Goblin from the glider were more than just fanservice, they were legitimately theme fitting moments and plot/pacing beats

Plus it had like 4 endings

  1. Can be explained he just didnt trust anyone, he even says that as a fact plus with all sorts of magic and unexplained shit not in his universe he could have just been iffy in the situation.
  2. Same goes for two plus it could be argued given he didnt technically die he could have been teleported in from a specific point before he stopped attacking Spider-Man from his universe.
  3. Given the situation both could have been keeping rather low profiles, more so for Tobys Spider-Man as he made it known to keep his identity a secret.
  4. Probably to recover and keep low.
  5. a possible feeling on top of knowing that we had people from other universes already in their universe so Andrew was an obvious guess. Then with Toby.
  6. Again probably keeping a low profile since they are in a new universe with magic so best to not fuck around in case bigger threats to them come along.
  7. And Peter Parker is generally a smart character and given the technology difference between universes it would not be surprising that three Peters at once working together can whip up faster cures. Plus for movie sake a lot of these moments play out faster then they naturally would.

The movie has the flimsiest excuse for existing with the Dr Strange idiot spell, Lizard basically does nothing the entire movie or even talks/reasons like Jamie Foxx does or at least Sandman, who also has weirdly conflicting motivations. Into the Spiderverse was a better multiverse type movie.

But all that doesn't matter because seeing the 3 peters was worth it, that fanservice was probably what Marvel was banking on. You can nitpick a lot of things about the movie, like them magically solving every villain's issues in 10 minutes (but hey 3 Peter heads are better than 1) and at the end of the day still be entertained.

Even though they don't appear until the last act of the movie which is crazy to me, seeing Tobey was everything. I just can't get over how great that was, and the way they introduced Andrew in Spidey costume and Tobey in street clothes was my favorite.

The movie was kinda a clever way of doing an origin story for Spiderman (the "real" Spider-Man not Iron Man Jr) by having him at the end be just a dude in an apartment with a stitched together Spider suit and no gadgets whatsoever. It's like they knew we were sick of Origin stories and so way back in Civil War and Homecoming they completely avoided it, but the MCU Spiderman trilogy actually ends with the Spider-Man being introduced. That got a chuckle out of me

Originally, Dr. Strange 2 MoM was suppose to come first before Spiderman NWH which would've flowed better with the Multiverse and all that. But I think there was some complications with Sony that forced them to release Spiderman NWH first.

But yeah it's a movie just looking to give an excuse for some great fanservice. I like that it did try to do something new like Peter looking for a way to rehabilitate the villains instead of just getting rid of them. Narratively, it's still shaky but it's still a pretty damn great movie. Probably the best of the Phase 4 films, with Shang Chi coming in second.

I don't recall him actually formally joining the villains. I'm pretty sure he just showed up looking for the box at the same time as they did, just for entirely different reasons.

Why did nobody notice that 2 new spidermen were bumming about town for 2 days when all the news was about Spiderman?

1. Tobey wasn't in his Spider-Man costume until the very end of the movie.
2. The only way you'd be aware there were two new Spider-Men running around is if they happened to be in the same place at the same time.

How did MJ know that Tobey and Andrew were the only Spidermen from other universes?

I don't think the movie ever implies that she did?

Also just the ability to whip up "Instantly revert all villains" syringes for everyone inside 7 minutes

Goblin's antidote wasn't whipped up in 7 minutes. His didn't actually work and it required Tobey to make a version that actually does. And Tobey said that he had actually been looking into a serum for a while after what happened with both Norman and Harry in his own universe.
