Given Esther's hormonal disorder that causes her dwarfism, she is supposed to look like a 9 year old girl for life even though she's mentally a 33 year old adult. Isabelle Fuhrman had long since outgrown the role and as a result, the makeup team and filmmakers had to get creative when making her look 9 again, which included the use of world-class makeup and forced perspective.

Some of the cast who were of the same height as Isabelle Fuhrman while in frame had to wear tall platform shoes while standing next to her to make her appear shorter, acting as forced prespective.

wtf this is some Amir Shervan Samurai Cop levels of stupid. Was anybody on earth actually ASKING for this and why would they walk into this sort of trap that they set up themselves? Come on lol

Yea I don't get it. I actually never saw the original but I saw the trailer for the new one and was very confused

Why a prequel and not a sequel? Sequel would have made 1000 times more sense

Unless she dies at the end of the first or something

Decided to watch original Orphan. Halfway now. So far, I am on the little girls side. She seems to be justified in most of her actions

One scene that pissee me off was when the brother maims a bird and she tells him to take responsibility and put it out of its misery.

The movie wants me to side with a stupid kid who maimed a bird and think this girl is a psychopath. She did the right thing in that scene. Brother is the fucking piece of shit

Ok so anyway I took a break for a while but I got back to it and saw the twist. I guess the prequel makes more sense now

Anyway, first half of the movie I was on her side. In the early scenes they really make the brother look like an asshole.

Honestly gotta applaud the dedication to keep the original actress. It'd probably be much easier to just cast a new actress.

Remember when they made a prequel to Silence of the Lambs, even though Anthony Hopkins was very noticeably older than he was in that film?

I signed up for Paramount+ mostly for Champions League and was surprised to see Orphan got a prequel.

First Kill was actually pretty clever. It didn't take itself too seriously but also didn't collapse into parody.

The set up is slightly different as Esther pretends to be a different girl who returns after being abducted. There's an interesting subplot about how this liberates the Dad from his grief. As Mom begins to suspect Esther is an impostor does it even matter if she has her husband back?

Julia Stiles was great as the mom and credit to Isabelle Furhman for playing the role again. Rest of cast: dad, brother, detective was solid as well. Much better than the original.

From what I've heard the prequel is good, and has a pretty good twist as well
