idk, JK has had some weird takes, where basically being transphobic takes precedence over literally any other belief that she has. She's shown support for crazy right wing people who like, want to take her rights away because they're being transphobic.

And she isn't very left wing in anything, so much as a "don't make me significantly change my life" type of centrist-ness.

This might be slightly controversial, but I don't think J K Rowling went alt-right. I just think she's one of those people who can't deal with any kind of criticism.

So, when there was some initial push-back on her original ignorant statements, she doubled down.

Then she tripled down after the understandable backlash.

Then she quadrupled down, etc.

Until she's at the point she's basically writing fanfiction about herself.

Seriously though? I think Michael Crichton was Alt Right before it was fascionable.

It's born out of second wave feminism, which had two currents in it that lended themselves to transphobia.
The first by emphasizing the purity of femininity. By this definition, a trans woman could never *truly* be a woman, as being AMAB would taint her even in the most sympathetic interpretation sympathetic interpretations were not used.

The second defined the category of woman as a lesser social class to be escaped or transcended. Thus, anyone aspiring to be a woman was simply an agent of the patriarchy who was reinforcing hostile gender norms: in other words, either a dupe or double-agent.

Needless to say, both are nonsense, but it wasn't really until the '90s that both feminism and the gay rights movement began to become more sympathetic to trans interests, with the emergence of more intersectional thought. Though, of course, hostile currents still exist in both, and much distrust remains.

Edit: In the first case, a trans man is simply in denial as to his true nature. In the second, he aspires to be an oppressor. The former reading seems to be especially popular in modern TERF circles

Her latest book has a disabled character whose Twitter header is basically a bunch of standard disabilities that people like Rowling think aren't real disabilities (fibromyalgia and POTs and a few others) and that people who say they have them are faking to scam the disability system and take away from the actual disabled people.

That disabled character is portrayed as a villain to the main character in her story. So it's just a dog whistle of Rowling saying "look at this big faker and how evil they are and the horrible things they're saying about my main character who is totally not a self insert" and it's pretty obvious based off her retweet history that she thinks those disabilities aren't real.

So yeah. She's suffering from brain rot, TERF brain, and other signs of garbage opinions as a result of being terminally online. But it's also hilarious to know both that she reads posts making fun of her and cries about it, and that she got so butthurt over it she wrote a fucking massive folio about how not butthurt she is.
