Productivity went up 13% from people who work from home:
-They work more minutes due to less commute and not being late
-Less breaks taken
-More efficient at the time they do spend working
-Less spending on rent by being able to live anywhere

And as boomers retire, so many workers are millennials, we grew up with the internet. We introverts. I haven't talked to a single millennial who doesn't prefer working at home. Everyone I talk to who works from home is just so much happier, meanwhile business has been booming.

I really don't get why companies want people back at work. Like did they learn nothing from the last 2 years? I'm listening to CNBC and the anchor is talking like working in-office is the only way and working from home is dumb millennial bullshit that we shouldn't give into.

They want to put that office space that they probably spent millions on to use.

Got made permanent work from home because we are a small label and the boss said it's pointless to pay for a side office when we are doing the same work from home. I wont miss driving to and from Nashville daily, damn near 3 hours total daily.

I want a work from home job so damn bad. Only half my company gets to work from home. The people who were lucky enough to be selected when the pandemic started. I guess it's less than half now. I've been at this company for 4 years, and got a promotion with 3 raises within 2 years of the pandemic starting. I would legit quit this job in a heartbeat if I got offered a job that lets me work from home.

I dont like work and I prefer working from home, but I can see a difference. Theres more to it than productivity. People are more likely to form relationships in the office as opposed to remotely, and studies (Ive heard) show that people who form these relationships are more likely to stay with their employer. If they have the long term mindset, theyll be more invested and more likely to move into leadership roles.

It's working basically the opposite for me.

Working from home has been so damn convenient for me that I'll probably stay with my employer for the foreseeable future unless I get a damn good offer somewhere else.

I kinda miss making connections and friendships in the office but that for sure doesn't beat the ability to work from home and get a full day's paycheck for like an hour or two of work a day

Tbh those stats are the complete opposite of my experience. I was way less productive even though I had less work to do (presumably because everyone else was also being less productive), I would log in on time every morning but then go cook breakfast and putz around the house, I'd take naps in the afternoons, and generally it was like being on vacation with some work every once in awhile. Probably why I've been back in the office for over a year now lol

I just can't get into work mode from the comfort of my home. I stay in comfort mode.

Well I wasn't getting promoted in the office and I make three times as much as I do now from my new WFH job.

I prefer going in to the office. But that's more so because of how my office handles WFH. If I telework, I must complete enough work to justify 8 hours of pay. So I get micromanaged like crazy and management scritinizes every hour of my work day.

But if I go into the office, I can literally browse my phone for half of the day lol. The work still gets done and I don't have anyone on my ass about it.

They got us back in the office ASAP and I know we had a huge dip in productivity because everyone was concerned with and arguing about safety protocols months into the return.

Speaking of, I'm headed off to that hellhole now... :(

I remember at my old job, the dude that got to work from home for a whole month due to covid guidelines did the best performance wise, but we were supposed to be in the office and not be distracted by ping pong tables, fantasy football chatter, liquor, multiple small group gatherings on the office floor, and etc.

The split seems to be that the companies that lease their office space want people back in the office, as they have leasing contracts they're paying for an cannot get out of.

Whereas companies that own their office space are ok with keeping their employees working from home, as they can use that space for employee that must work in-office, or lease out the office space and recoup some of the costs.

Yeah, I'm not happy they're finally forcing me back into the office in October. At least it's only one day a week, but they're planning to eventually move to "hotel seating" which sounds like the dumbest thing ever. Just let us keep our cubicles since you're forcing us to come in.

It's just this and only this. Nothing else. Management has a million ways to track your productivity without it feeling like micromanaging.

Ive worked 100% remote since Mar 2020 and even moved out of state to physically be away from the office.

Ive been promoted twice since then, and now manage a team of 6.

Ill return to office work over my dead body. If my current job ever takes issue with this, they are more than welcome to fire me.
