Usually we don't bury the urns ourselves, but family didn't want to do it in this case so someone on the team had to. In fact I'm pretty sure keeping an urn with ashes is illegal and you can only get them in the event that you are planning to spread the ashes. Surely in the US there is a process of burial for earthly remains in the case of cremation?
