Sorry I don't care to give people downplaying hitting children the benefit of the doubt. How terrible of me.

My mom slapped me sometimes when was being difficult. Looking back, I can think of a few times when I really was being a little shit and had it coming.
Nowadays, I kinda have the feeling I'm a little more disciplined than most people my age. Not sure if there's a connection, but I do know I don't feel traumatized about that.

I do feel traumatized about having been bullied and beaten up in middle school, but that's a different story.

The older I get the less I feel about it. When I was a kid tho it definitely hurt

The difference between spanking and full on beating your kid is much more significant than you are acting like it is.

People are often poor judges of whether or not they turned out "fine". Also, everyone here is a CEMan or CEWoman. None of us are fine.

Were you a fully grown person when you did this? If not, then no you weren't. People choose to have children, choose to keep them, and have more fully formed brains and control of their emotions. It is the responsibility of a parent to parent responsibly. Don't try and accept part of the blame for someone physically trying to hurt you. Suppose your mother had an argument with a coworker and did the same thing to them that she did to you. That'd be some solid jail right there. In real real world, you don't get to just beat the shit out of other people without consequences.

I was a teenager. I dont remember exactly how old but I was in high school still and I graduated at 17

edit: it was one of the few times my mother ever personally tried to use physical violence on me but she did several times. Theyre hazy but I remember her trying to trap me in the kitchen and I had to force my way past her and she tried hitting me to stop me and I returned the favor. Good times

I didn't respond to anything but spankings or the possibility of spankings as a kid. I'm not defending it on the whole, but I have no hard feelings or negative thoughts regarding my dad spanking me specifically.

Wrong or not it worked and it was the only thing that did. Even by 6 or so my dad could yell, try reasoning with me, and literally everything else under the sun and I just didn't care.

I got the royal shit beat out of me when I was kid. My mom left bruises everywhere.

I was then the first person to go to college in my family, and now I'm also debt free thanks to Joe Biden, all at 27.

I'm just tired of people acting like spanking is fine because "it isn't leaving marks or bloodying them" as is often the case in my country, as we still allow parents to hit children as long as no marks are left (but yet jail you if you do the exact same to adults) If you aren't trying to okay the abuse that practically every person versed in the matter says spanking is, then I apologise.

And yes, obviously breaking an arm etc is worse and no one sane is denying that. We simply shouldn't downplay the abuse that spanking is just because something worse also happens.
