I dun get the appeal

Trouble getting to others options, lack of other options, got scammed, come from a family with no history of collegiate education, there are literally hundreds of thousands of reasons

Get into, sure, but there's a nursing program at just about every State University of State in America.

I make a living building websites for them, and the only one that wasn't run by lunatics went non-profit to exploit loopholes.

Propaganda from the moment you go into grade school saying the only way to get a good job is to go to college and that a college job would pay for any and all debt so just ignore the costs of college.

Worked for a state university for a few years, and rebuilt its website from the ground up.
Budget cuts got me kicked out (and the website was already rebuilt), and got hired a private agency.

Been there a decade, because I can hand-code a whole-ass custom website faster than anyone else could sloppily adapt a Wordpress theme and asstons of plugins to fit what the client actually wants.

Wordpress does cut out some, uh, "preliminaries", and that's all the SEO guys a few cubicles over can work with.
I've built whole wordpress sites in a couple days, by starting from a five-line index.php and empty styles.css and working up from there. It's just easier to just code what the client wants, than trying to bludgeon a bloated "kitchen sink" theme into doing it.

PHP is a disaster of a language, but it basically does anything a website would want, and I learned it in a week by flipping Classic ASP knowledge.

Wordpress constantly courts "webmasters" who can't code. If you do know how to code, it's a goddamn Death Star.

Webmaster is such a kinky name lol. Like webmistress hehe

I don't think "webmaster" has been a thing since 1999 anyway.

Back to topic: for-profit schools are almost all terrible. There's a welding school I did the website for that I'd go to just to do it, tho. Welding is pretty awesome.

Community college isn't going to grant you an MD but it's great for associates-level stuff.

They are 99% grifters, and that that last 1% isn't aware that they are.
You can get a decent degree at a for-profit school, yes, but they only really exist because of the 1992 Direct Loans Act

Lol, no, community colleges are just regular 2 year colleges. Nothing like for-profit monstrosities.

Community colleges are actually the preferred option for just about any type of vocational/higher education option that doesnt revolve around a 4 year degree. Besides also being cheap options to get 2 years worth of credits to transfer over to a 4 year college and finish out a normative Bachelors.

Community colleges are fantastic.

You can take a couple classes just to explore interest in a subject or you can start progress towards a Bachelor's while saving money. A lot of older professionals work part-time jobs teaching there after they've retired from what they were doing before.

There is a for profit university in Canada called Quest University. You can basically pursue anything you want to. We also have stuff like DeVry as well...

Ah, well Quest is apparently not for profit, the distinction is that it's private... which is rare here

literally not true. the community college in my town has both programs.

o yea: to answer the question: they lie to students and tell them its easier than getting an associates degree.
