one thing I like about some of the WRPGs that I've played in recent years is that they tend to have a finite amount of enemy fights, so you couldn't even grind if you wanted to.

you also have to explore and do side-missions to have enough exp to be strong enough for the bosses you come across.

But I want the game to last. Even if there's some tedium, if it's the very last thing the game has for you, at least the option to keep going is there.
Xenoblade 1 reminded me so much of FFX that I ended up pretty disappointed there were no Dark Aeons/Penance or monster arena.

its you choice to make battles difficult or easy.

only if you want an easier battle, you have to put in the time.

personally I call for the end of RNG rare item drops.

I can't really think of that many games where grinding is even particularly worthwhile for anything mandatory. Basically only a few points in some of the Ys games where they balanced the level curve poorly in a game where one level has comically huge effects.
