In my experience, when women say that they actually legitimately do care about a dog more than your needs. Which is pretty pathetic at it's core, I love animals to death but if I had to choose between my partner and a pet in a life or death situation...I'm picking my partner instantly. You don't want someone who is going to hesitate on that question. Also I have found that a lot of people who say stuff like that do indeed lack common compassion for people in general

Sounds like her priorities are straight. Pets are supposed to be a lifelong commitment, and caring for them should be at or near the top of the priority list. Anything less and you really shouldn't have a pet.
