So despite playing and enjoying the Max Payne games, I never got around to Alan Wake back when it originally released. It wasnt until I played through Control and realized it was linked to that game and then they announced the AWE DLC that I realized that I should probably go back and play that game first. Then they announced the remaster so I figured that would be the best way to finally play itthen I still didnt actually get around to playing it until just this month. So I was kinda coming at it from the perspective of nowing about objects of power of whatnot so it was a bit of an interesting way to approach the game. Alan Wake himself is a bit too serious of a character for me and the combat has clearly aged poorly, but I still had a good amount of fun traversing the sights of Bright Falls and solving its dark mysteries. Also I havent touched the two DLC chapters yet as I was saving them for after I was already finished with the Platinum so those are next!

The platinum itself is split across 2 playthroughs. First on easy or normal just getting 100% of the collectibles (Thermos, manuscript pages, supply boxes, TVs, etc) and just enjoying the story, then playing again on Nightmare difficulty and getting the 15 Nightmare exclusive manuscript pages and finishing it. Unfortunately the game has no way good way to track what collectibles you do and dont have outside of the manuscript pages so I had to rely on a collectibles checklist to make sure I had them all and even then I screwed up and had to track down a Thermos I was missing somewhere in episode 5. I didnt feel there was much difference in difficulty though between Easy and Nightmare. Enemies took a bit longer being exposed to light to be damaged and then took a few more bullets to kill, but it never felt like it was unfairly difficult. Saving those flare guns and flashbangs certainly help though instead of needlessly wasting them. Beyond that there are some combat related trophies and other challenges like clearing a specific part of the game in under 30 minutes or clearing this other part without firing your gun, things like that.

As previously mentioned Ill be checking out the DLC next. I have American Nightmare on PC, but I read that was non-canon so dont know if I should bother with that. At some point Ill replay control since theres that Ultimate Edition I assume with all the PS5 bells and whistles and finally get to that AWE DLC. And hey Alan Wake II is listed as 2023 so I didnt have to wait a decade for it like most fans so win-win in my opinion.

I thought it was one of the better 3D Metroids and it did make my top 10 list in 2019

but if you must know I would say Control is still better than Alan Wake
