Like if someone weighs 80KG they are still only allowed bags the same weight as someone who is 180KG

try loading bags for a day.

also overpacked bags sometimes rip their zippers apart.

international flights are usually 23kg/bag for check in.

for handcarry, heavy bags usually make dis/embarkation longer, or occupy stow baggage for other people, there's always that dude who has a bag stowed far away from their seat.

I think some airlines actually make you buy 2 tickets if you occupy too much seat anyways.

Passenger weight can be evenly distributed throughout the craft. Baggage weight however, if it is not properly accounted for, can cause accidents such as this one:

I always figured that it was more related to the extra cost of fuel and airlines wanting to maximize profit. But yeah, I guess that on occasion the weight distribution can be an issue.

They never ask you for your weight and you have assigned seats that most people pay for. I've never seen the attendants moving people due to weight either. How come if weight distribution is a thing, this never happens?

Because the vast majority of the time, the loaded plane's center of gravity is still in a manageable location and would just force an emergency landing so that it can be corrected. It's when the CG is in a location that the plane's elevators cannot fully compensate for is when catastrophes happen like the one in the video I posted.

Have you noticed that having something heavy in the trunk of your car tends to have a more noticeable impact on suspension then having passengers?
