it is? like what exactly do you use linear algebra in in engineering? like an example

I guess in pharmacokinetics we use integral calculus concepts like area under the curve for drug distribution over time.

Easy example is structural analysis for civil engineering. The deformation / stress response of a structure can be solved using linear algebra. That is the backbone of how most building structural analysis software operates.

You can use Kirchoff's Current Law and a matrix to pretty quickly determine how much current is entering and leaving different parts of a circuit

as Gwynevere said, I used linear algebra in my electrical engineering class

Not to me. Ive used basic algebra and geometry in daily life, but never anything advanced. Those courses should only be university level anyway, since you only need it for a select few positions. The levels of stress that advanced mathematics put on children is unnecessary and cruel, and anything past basic algebra and geometry isnt necessary for most of us. They should teach kids about writing resumes or applying for colleges instead of that stuff.

yeah maybe you're right. I have heard some people say that most advanced math is just moving numbers around. Don't know if you agree with that though

And I've used ZERO of it in the real world >_>

no, but boolean can be considered somewhat advanced. Maybe not as advanced as Calculus, but that's not what the topic asked.

I have a PhD in math.

Just a handful of applications that are closer to research I've done:

  1. Cryptography.
  2. There are lots of graph theoretic problems that lend themselves to stability properties of networks and things like that.
  3. Topology and homotopy theory has been applied to data science. There are other techniques that are all about reducing data with lots of properties down to a select few for both ease of storage and to capture hidden qualities of data sets (see PCA analysis for an example of this).
