ideals?

Keep that in mind. Republicans are very good at running propaganda, and it doesn't always just stay on one side of the aisle. Right now, there's "criminals are overrunning our cities!" that seems pretty successful in reaching across the aisle.

This.

He lost the popular vote but that election was one with one of the lowest percentage of voter turnout in history. Republicans convinced Democrat supporters to stay home and because of that Trump was able to get an EC victory.

There was a lot more to it than that. For instance, having the FBI do their first search for emails (because of course there had to be many more when they could never find anything particularly damning) a week before the election could be argued as far bigger than anything to do with the electoral college.

Yep, they and along with libertarians like Alex Jones were trying to shove down the message that because Trump was so rich that he couldn't be bought by the establishment. This was massively proven false throughout the world when Trump simped for Saudi Arabia regarding the Khashoggi murder. You know, when Saudi Arabia said that they accidentally hack sawed Khashoggi into pieces.

Alright, let's give Sanders the absolute best case scenario where he keeps all the states Clinton won in the general and add in the states where Sanders' primary margins were bigger than Trump's margin of victory in the general. We end up with a map like this: https://www.270towin.com/maps/LyBEP What other states could he possibly flip?

While that strategy is shitty, it has nothing to do with this topic. The whole point is that nobody believes the rust belt revolution narrative anymore. It's clear that "economic distress" is not the primary motivator of Trump's core base. However, it was something that the left ate up as it was pushed, particularly hard by republicans.

But that was a particularly clever move, because it ties into leftist ideals, making it easy to believe. It doesn't even need to be clever though! People on the left bought into the idea that CNN was fake news simply because Trump repeated it a bunch of times. This has been the strategy re: crime. Blast every violent event that happens in a city across the airwaves until people have the impression that liberal cities are Purge like hellscapes.

Anyway, just important to be aware of patterns of stories that come out, even if you are on the left and think you are less at risk of buying into right-wing bullshit.

The email probe was announced the Friday before the election, with 0 information.

The news cycle was DOMINATED by Clinton scandal because of this. Even if nothing came of it, the damage was done.

Unfortunately for Republicans, the dems took notes and are running the same play this year. It's a combination of Watergate tactics (run the damn hearings, and run em , and run em and run em and run em until everyone, eventually, after a year, does start to get the picture) as well as announcing big news right before the election (the tactic used against Clinton in 2016).

Dont expect trump to be charged until november. they wont run the chance of him dominating the narrative. hit em hard, quickly, on a Friday before the election so that it saturates the news cycle for a solid 72 hours.

remember robot said so!

Well think about it, Republicans depend on food stamps, welfare, social security the most, even in their states they need the most farm subsidies, I have nothing against that but they continuously vote against their own interests.

It usually stems from this; they want all of that stuff but only white people only white people can get benefits if they need everyone else doesn't belong in America and that's essentially the MAGA banner.

JD Vance with Hillbilly Elegy was the face of that notion, and yeah, he's not doing so well in 2022 (for an Ohio GOP candidate).

Now with the Cities On Fire narrative there are a couple more troubling dynamics. Sinclair's market share has afaik expanded, and stories like those get ratings, so all local news, a vital but struggling business, has to play along. It's a good reason to get your local news from public radio.

Well Robot, you are pretty much tying in to what the topic is actually about now, in a way. That "tactic" won't work for Dems because they suck at narrative and messaging first of all. But also because the Democrats will fall for Republican/Right talking points hook line and sinker. But Republicans will not play the Democrats game.

Like TC said, the Republicans convinced people that Trump won because of the working class, and you saw SO MANY people on the left eat that line up. How "out of touch" the Dems are. How they "ignore the rust belt". "Coastal Elites" lost to the "Real America". Dems ate exactly what Republicans fed them. The reverse isn't going to happen.

The Republicans are going to push back HARD on any narrative that Trump did anything wrong. They will uniformly push the agenda that the Democrats are illegally attacking them because of a desire to win politically, and they'll convince enough people to believe it.

it's white, cis, het, christian. more than anything they want to be able to be racist, sexist, transphobic, biphobic, and homophobic, casually, all the time, and they want no one to be able to call them out on their bullshit without being silenced.

I stopped reading the cracked article here:

Madness. Their heads are so far up their asses that they can't tell up from down. Basic, obvious truths that have gone unquestioned for thousands of years now get laughed at and shouted down -- the fact that hard work is better than dependence on government, that children do better with both parents in the picture, that peace is better than rioting, that a strict moral code is better than blithe hedonism, that humans tend to value things they've earned more than what they get for free, that not getting exploded by a bomb is better than getting exploded by a bomb.

that children do better with both parents in the picture,
-not true. divorced parents are better than an abusive relationship parents.

that peace is better than rioting
-if it's a protest, that is better than peace. this argument would be used against the civil rights marches, for example. "You might be right, but do you have to make such a big deal about it?"

that a strict moral code is better than blithe hedonism
-I am absolutely a hedonist. you (or anyone else) has no proof that anything besides hedonism exists. our pets are hedonists, yet we know they are "good" "sweat" and "kind" on the inside.

that humans tend to value things they've earned more than what they get for free
-fuck that i want FREE MONEY. free. money.

that not getting exploded by a bomb is better than getting exploded by a bomb.
ok ok this point is valid it's just ironic b/c being exploded and vaporized, from any source, is probably one of the best ways to go tbqh.

anyway I couldnt keep reading after that. the author makes astute observations, but they are just blaming city dwellers and not looking at it from the perspective of the cities at all.

you werent watching fox news that friday. I was because i was at the gym watching CNN and FOX simultaneously.

you guys are so focused on the past; this administration is not hillary clinton, and when biden won that also triggers changes within the DNC strategies (essentially they listen to Biden's team's strategy now instead of Clinton's).

maybe clinton's team was kind of stupid, but this one is not. they are clever and focused. they are adaptable. this year has been a totally different animal. Jen Psaki left, they changed a lot of people when their shit wasn't working last year.

it's working now.

so to say "the dems can't play ball" is to miss the big picture.

dt under investigation by multiple agencies in multiple states, all while the white house gets to show off it's clean hands. they've got ppl appointed by dt, in one way or another, doing their work for them.

3.9 billion in student loan debt was cancelled.
infrastructure package. made it happen.

those were concrete promises and those are deliveries.

all we need now is the economy to be doing good before the election. gas is dropping. it will continue to drop into the winter.

the fed controls vast quantities of, among other things, crypto. we know the crypto "crash" was largely the work of the fed reserve dumping large amounts of crypto. they can simply leverage that heading into november to create a mini stock market boom. but the boom isnt necessary, just the GOOD VIBES that come along with BTC going up to 50k or whatever.

granted these crypto finance conspiracy theories are starting to get pretty out there.

but we'll see come november. if someone (anyone else) can remember something that long.

in my experience I say something like this and then on November 5th it's just common knowledge :P everyone will be saying "wowie those dems are on a roll" and w/e else. as if they thought so right now. right now, everyone thinks the dems are still shitting the bed but i see cold steel.

Incorrect.

Repub propaganda only works when the dems skirt the line of not offering much more than "I am not a far right right extremist."

Joe for example wasn't even gonna try to cancel student loans though he sorta platformed he might.
Then he got backlash for it from the progressive MAJORITY.

Why is this?

It is because that side of the party is about just being the status quo with a kinda sorta progressive policy once in a blue moon.

So when the propaganda shouts "they don't care about you! What they gonna do to positively effect you life?"

It actually has an air of truth to it. Not that the repubs will either but unlike say Bernie who would do x y z and on and on, it is hard to answer....

But at least they aren't Trump

Hope you are correct but it is scary when you see that Hilary's tactic of propping up the far right nutjob is still being done and by that I mean they literally funding their opponents who are far right nutjobs:

https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/interactive/2022/democrat-ad-spending-republican-trump/

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kqgP9Ft_1CY

This is very dangerous because if it backfires like it did for Hilary we have literal fascism. We didn't quite get there with Trump, but we won't get a second chance if we let that happen again.
