But I personally enjoyed Guild Wars 1, even if that's not a 'true' MMO. No idea how lively it is when the sequel has been around for a good while.

Xiv has an amazing story and content that's actually fun unlike WoW. Refined that type of game

Rotation spam combat is utterly dreadful and its fetch quest driven gameplay is exactly what I hate the most in MMORPGs

Is it actually an issue with the game design or do they suck now because of the samey internet personality everyone on there will likely have?

I dont think there are many fetch quests once you get past like the first half of ARR. nothing even close to what you find in WoW anyway m. A ff14 fetch quest is maybe once in every 50 quests you have to go kill a bear and get their 1 bear ass that has a 100% chance to drop, before continuing with regular non-fetch quests. In WoW, 9 out of every 10 quests is collect 20 bear asses that have a 5% chance to drop

there are a number of classes that arent rotation based, I.e. dancer. WoW is absolutely rotation based with some lights you press occasionally

Play osrs
Grind for a few hundred hours (or thousands depending on pace) to get stats up and good items.

Once you got a decent amount of gp start staking a decent amount of it at the duel arena. I used to get serious headrushes from it and also letting my friend stake for me xd.

I remember one time I accepted a stake and my opponent tried to scam me by setting up obstacles (a choosable option i wasn't paying attention too well) to catch me off guard. I beat his ass and won 100m gp. He wanted to stake me again afterwards but I said no way dude!!

Ofc I eventually lost all my gp from a series of losses and quit for a couple months. Its part of the process

The only good, true MMOs are sandbox ones like Albion and Eve, or close to one like OSRS.

The first couple years of OSRS were fun, but bringing back the Grand Exchange kinda killed off the interpersonal engagement (plus a good chunk of the community turning entirely toxic around the staking scene)

Theres so such thing as a good MMO. There will always be whales at the top of the ladder. You are a pleb in real life and you will be a pleb in the game.

I never liked the art style, or the ultra grindy gameplay

Been playing ESO for the last year on PS4. It's okay, but not great. You can trade in-game gold for crown (premium currency) gifts, though, so you can eventually get the DLC you want if you can find a seller. I believe they just did a discounted crown store thing today, so all the MTX crap is cheaper and the base game should be on sale. If it hasn't happened yet, it should happen tomorrow.

The downside is the upcoming patch is something almost everyone hates and ZOS is pushing through with most of the nerfs, etc., so this may not be the best time to throw your support behind the game. I guess new players don't care much about that stuff anyway, though.

Just uninstalled Ragnarok Online. I've always wanted to like it and get to a high level because the art style and music are some of the best in an MMORPG, but having to constantly click to pick up tiny loot icons is sooooooo god damn tedious and kills the game for me. Potion-chugging style combat is also annoying

Just going to end up back in The Realm when I run out of free games to try

Try a subscription mmo like FF14 instead of free MMOs. Free MMOs are just grindfests

I wish there were more MMO's that aren't fantasy based. I like Guild Wars and FFXIV but it just seems like most of the genre all blends together because it's the same type of shit.

The DC MMO had a cool concept but it just kind of died out. Wasn't there another one called City of Heroes that got shut down too? I just want more modern city based settings like a GTA with MMO gameplay. Someone make that please.

Blade and Soul is close to being the best F2P MMO so far

You can make your character SUPER thick. There's even a THIGH SLIDER

Combat is smooth

But

It's English dubbed

Sounds like a bad MMO, I want good story and gameplay
