Kakariko has some shops. I buy some fire arrows, which are expensive af, but I want some to blow up those boko tnt barrels when I need. Also get a set of hylian armor, which is rather affordable and boosts my def from 2 to 9. Then I find a great fairy, who, after I play 100 rupees, boosts my armor further to 15. This was a fast boost, wow.

Found a shrine but wasnt able to complete it. Either I didnt see the solution or I need the ability to dive and/or iron boots. Gonna wait to see if those pop up later. Its some weird puzzle where you scoop orbs with a bowl

Suddenly I'm doing the zora storyline. Why not.

Tula is a nice fellow. Likes to slack off but still gets the job done.

I just ran into a building size cyclops named Hinox. He grabbed a freaking tree and one shot me. I only made it out cuz I had a fairy. What is this, Xenoblade?

Then I met a wizzrobe. Which made for a fun fight until a freaking lightning decided to kill me.

So much for "I have 15 armor so Im tanky now"

That said this might be my favorite iteration of wizzrobes in the series so far.

I best the wizzrobe and gain a magic rod that shoots lightning balls. Cool. It absolutely murders a lizalfos.

Shrine 12 get. Its one that I have to open by burning spikes in the entrance with a fire arrow (thanks b8!), then beat a laser puzzle

Forgot to add but shrine 11 was one in kakariko that was basically a free fighting tutorial.

And... more stamina

If that's the case, then there is one specific Divine Beast I would suggest you do sooner than later.

Is it the bird? Someone already dumped a list of hints to me in a PM and one of them was fight the bird first.

I may or may not do it. Right now in in the middle of exploring the Zora region so I might follow through the end of it before I go elsewhere.

Though I should also go to Hateno...

I don't think there's a problem with playing the game without going there for a bit, but I can guarantee you'll like what you get there.

Sadly there is no going underwater in this game (my one disappointment but I understand why). As mentioned every shrine/puzzle can be solved solely by using runes. So you have the solution to beat any shrine right off the bat.

The zoras in this game are all goofy af and I love it. They kinda lacked personality in previous zeldas. Here they all want to please their prince but are very incompetent at it

Met a sheikah from the "Yiga clan" who tried to kill me. I took him down with the electric rod. Then a Gerudo appeared and gave me food. Wtf.

Sad my electric rod is broken though. This took so much work to get. But it was a good use, I loved to eletrocute that jerk.

Beat shrine 14, where a "guardian for newbies" tried and failed to kill me.

Zora who wants my help: "Come on. Consider how nice it would be to know you saved us all!" - thats pretty convincing,

After some annoying climbing in the rain, I activate the Lanayru tower, while an idiot Zora who got stuck on the top watches

I finally meet the prince of the zoras. A totally radical dude who acts like he came out of Sonic Adventure or something. He gives me the quest, defeat the beast so the rain stops. Ngl thats a compelling argument. His theme song it pretty cool tho

But sounds like a good time to take a detour and go explore somewhere different!

Just looked at the map of Lanayru. We have Ruto Lake, Mikau Lake, Lulu Lake. Hmm

Zoras before: noble and serious folks who only said the necessary and ocasionally played some mean rock and roll.

Zoras now: dumb teenagers who want to look like they are noble and serious but are too goofy to convince anyone. I love it.

Can you imagine the poor people who didnt take the road to Kakariko and never found Hestu until WAY later if at all? Stuck with the base inventory the whole game?

When my friend played the game for the first time she forgot that he existed and basically completed 90% of the game before finding him again.

It was really confusing because I was trying to help her upgrade her inventory, but he wasn't in his normal location. So I assumed he was at one of the stables he goes to before then. He wasn't in any of them either. I was so baffled about where he could be until we finally returned to his starting location on the road outside of Kakariko still waiting for his quest to be finished.

The problem with overworld enemies leveling up is not the weapons, its that environmental damage doesnt scale up, so it becomes pretty much worthless. Youll drop a silver bokoblin off a huge cliff and they dont even die

Beat shrine 15 and obtained a bandana that makes me better at climbing.

Gonna give up on the Zora region for now cuz the rain makes exploration really annoying. I feel like those regions are easier to explore after you beat the bosses, but I'm not in a hurry to fight them.

I spend 80 rupees out of fire arrows to burn some torches for a sidequest and gain 20 rupees. What kind of scam is that. Funny that it was the arrow shop owner who offered that quest, I wonder if she does it for every customer that comes.

Met a fire wizzrobe. I might be able to kill it but got lazy so I just ran.

Hateno fortress. The last bastion of resistance of Hateno region. It's cute that they think it was this little wall that kept Ganon from entering their land instead of the magical princess, but it's the thought that counts I guess.

I burn a lot of thorns and unlock the Hateno tower. This map's size is starting to overwhelm me tbh. I need to finish this part of the story so I can start exploring the areas one by one, more methodically. Too much freedom makes me anxious I guess.

That's a big coastline huh. And I still haven't unlocked the south part of the map.

There is a way to one shot elemental enemies, well at least the fire/ice ones.

Also you can light regular arrows with fire if there's any nearby sources (like a campfire). I often use this trick to ignite torches or cooking pots. You don't even have to release the arrow in most cases. Using this trick saves on inventory space as well since you practically will never need to use a regular torch.

I walk about 20 minutes to a shrine I can see in a distance only to get my ass utterly handed to me by a robot. Ok game I got your message. Beef up, then start going too far. At least shrines get permanent shortcus when you unlock them.

At least on the way I got to ravage a camp of black bokoblins. Cost me two fairies, a bomb arrow and had to bring my strongest weapon, but the bokos also dropped a lot of good weapons themselves.
Hateno.

Find a shop in Hateno that lets me dye my clothes. I pick green cuz Im boring like that

A very gay carpenter boss wants to sell me a house. For 3k rupees and a crapton of wood (is this harvest moon?). I can probably manage that if I sell lots of ores, but is it worth it?

The Hateno shrine is more level appropriate. It also features a very annoying game about twisting a ball in a maze with motion controls. I manage to cheat by twisting it so hard it goes over walls. Finesse is for suckers. Shrine 16 get.

I meet the resident mad scientist of this game. A little girl. Who may or may not also be immortal and hundreds of years old. She was the one who put me to sleep 100 years ago. She gives me a quest to recover some blue flame and calls me presumptious for thinking she'd help me for free. Nice.

I finish the quest to restore my sheikah slate. It gives me a camera. Plus a thing called compendium which seems to be a collection of things that Ive found. No idea how to add entries to it though. Im also given 12 photos taken by Zelda which will restore my memories if I go to the corresponding places.

I dont recognize any of those photos. But an npc tells me one of them is from mount lanayru. Might as well go there next.

I get a fifth heart from the godess statue, then go explore a shrine at a lonely island. An even stronger robot than the previous one kicks my ass in there. I'm starting to get good at fighting those robots, though. But this one's stats are just too high, I'd have to spend a full inventory out of weapons just to chip away its hp. Maybe I'll try the previous robot again though.

There is a raft near the shrine. I take it and go to a nearby island that seems interesting.

It's called Eventide Island.

A god tells me all my equipment is gone and my challenge is to clear the island with just whatever I can find in it. I fail miserably.

"Modest" robot beaten, as predicted. When the fucker was at low HP it just decided to spam guardian lasers. So I had to burn through my fairies and bum rush it to finish it off. 17 shrines. It gives me some obscenely powerful stuff too. Well, 45 atk seems powerful at this stage. "Major" robot will have to wait till I have even stronger stats though.

I tried another go at eventide island and I managed not to get killed super fast. But its tough. I need to come back when I'm better at the game. Problem is figuring out how to take down moblins and blue bokos with just tutorial level itens.

I try to explore mount lanayru. He game tells me its so cold not even winter clothes or warm food can help me survive there. Google tells me using both things at once works, though. So I do it.

The climbing is swift until I get ambushed by a blue lizalfos who kills me in two slaps. The problem with winter clothes is they have shit armor.

Find another stable and shrine 18 near swamp. Caught a new horse, this one actually me required to eat stealth enhancing food to approach. I name it Eject, after the way it casually ejected me into water and made me drown to death the first time I tried to tame it. It's got more stamina and speed than Trampler, but less Strength, which from what I gather means HP. Feels like I'll be back with Trampler soon, with the way I get myself and my horses into trouble.

I decide to approach Mt Lanayru from the west instead, like the painter told me to. He didnt say I had to scale it. It find a canyon with sone ruins, and at the end, a light that gives me the first memory.

A very good flashback ensues where we learn Zelda was traveling with Link and the 4 guardians, trying and failing to find a way to unlock her sealing powers. Then suddenly Ganon awakes, and it's time for war. We know how this will go (4 warriors will die and Zelda will finally manage to seal Ganon), which makes the whole scene even more chilling.

I find a lynel. It does justice to its counterparts from 2D games by wiping the floor with me.

A random nerdy guy in the middle of the mountain reveals a hint to shrine just because I call him "doctor". Ok.

Impa gives me Link's blue vest from the flashback, which shows monsters' hp. Cool. Later I find out its real (possibly unintended) use is to see threats from behind walls.

In my quest to find memories, I entered the woodland region, beat shrine 19 (annoying ball wacking minigame) and unlocked the tower. Now that was one hell of a well guarded tower. Bokos, moblins, octoroks, a fire wizzrobe (I killed it by knocking it down the hill and sniping as it slowly walked up), a freaking acid moat, some electric platforms, and did I mention octoroks? Also the highest tower so far, just to force me to climb the nearby structures. It was fun, though.

Dumb activity of the day: releasing little animals (ie frogs, bugs) that I caught so I can take photos of them for the conpendium, then having them fly away before I take the photo.

This is the coolest concept for lost woods Ive seen maybe. Follow the direction of the wind, an NPC says. How can you see where the wind is blowing? Well the game gives you fire and a torch. So light it up, and watch where the sparks fly to as you move through the forest.

Shrine 20. An interesting puzzle about counting constelations.

This version of the Great Deku Tree is hardcore.

"Ive waited 100 years for you, but even my patiece runs out"

He lets Link try to grab the master sword once, but since I dont have enough hearts, he makes me stop before I die. "Next time, I won't stop you and will just let you die".

This deku tree has seen some shit. He has no patience for early game heroes. Get some fucking hearts or gtfo, I have koroks to feed and shit.

A sleeping korok is having nightmares about being attacked by vegetarians. That's the meme.

The Lost Pilgrimage is a top 10 most annoying quest in the zelda series.

Follow this korok kid who seems to have great hearing through a forest with bad visibility without him noticing you. Also try not to lose him when he speeds up or when a wolf attacks you and he hides.

What is worse is that the game apparently glitched near the end and I got to the shrine before the korok, while he disappeared. So I grabbed shrine 21 but didnt finish the quest. Not sure if I wanna try again now.

Second one was about using magnesis to follow a trail of metal rocks. Ez. Shrine 22 get.

The last korok quest is trickier cuz its a long trail full of enemies and swamps and I have to keep my weapons from breaking. But the catch is that it still follows the red moon mechanic, so anything I kill wont be there if I fail and start over. After a while I make it to shrine 23.

Lake Saria, Mido Swamp and Rauru Hills.

No landmark for Tingle, though? Preposterous! He was a true child of the forest!

In an alternate bad ending universe, those towers don't have shaikah slate pads at the top. They have Tingle. And he charges 500 rupees for each region map.

Things you expect to kill you in zelda games: Moblins, lynels, darknuts, iron knuckles.

Things that actually kill you: a friggin bear.

I mean, it's a bear. But thats a weird type of realism.

I paid 100 rupees for a hint about a bandit's treasure. Took a while but eventually I looked at the map and realized where it was. Having the treasure actually be 2 saphires and a bunch of oher stuff (and a flaming sword!) feels sweet. Got a good 500% profit here. Suck it, bear.

A Rito bard tells me to play the song of storms to summon lightning. I dont even know where to begin here.

Tropical rainforest is not a common environment for a zelda game but I'll take it.

Took a screenshot of the map. Looks like Ive been mostly circling Hyrule Field from the east half, occasionally venturing to the far east, not finding much then coming back.

Met a dragon. Not much to add cuz Im not dumb enough to challenge a dragon.

Shrine 24 and lake hylia stable. Also found a horse obstacle minigame. I discover my horse hates jumping over obstacles.

Lake tower unlocked. So this lake hylia serms quite small. Relatively. It seems as big as TP's Hylia, give or take. But this map is way bigger so the lake looks like a pond in comparison, where in OoT and TP it would take a huge section of the map. I wonder if it dried up. Or maybe this is some post-WW world where people named their landmarks after ancient Hyrule ones and this was the closet they could find to a Lake Hylia.

I find a memory. Zelda reveals she didnt want to be a zelda. That's a pretty interesting characterization for this series. The voice acting is great, too.

I need to start carrying crap weapons to kill all the stalchildren, keese, octoroks and chuchus who keep attacking me. They are wasting my good weapons.

Find a field full of deactivated guardians. Start looting them. Suddenly one of them shows an hp bar. GTFO.

Find shrine 26, after solving a puzzle about hitting a cursed statue at night. The shrine is a freaking platforming game involving a giant clock, straight out of Super Mario 64. Gotta say, they really used their creativity in those things.

I swear I wasnt going to eldin now. But then there was a shrine. Then another. One shrine also completed me a quest for free. Use a painting to locate it. Except I had already seen it from miles away, in the south of Lanayru. I have a feeling Im missing a lot of shrines that are in plain sight just because I dont look from the exact angles.

Try to get into a habit of using bombs on the weak enemies, since you never run out of those. Learning to parry also helps, you can kill a keese as it's charging you by just parrying it once. Their measly 1hp can't even resist the force of a simple shield.

Try to get into a habit of using bombs on the weak enemies, since you never run out of those. Learning to parry also helps, you can kill a keese as it's charging you by just parrying it once. Their measly 1hp can't even resist the force of a simple shield.

Will try those, thanks.

The strategy of using crap weapons seems to be doing okay, though. I spent almost all my korok seeds on weapon slots so now I have plenty of room.

My policy now is to always keep the inventory full even if I have to fill it with 3 atk weapons, cuz those are still useful.

It might be a hassle to keep switching down the line, though.

Keese and Chuchus are really easy to take out with bombs, yeah.

I wouldn't say there's no reason to fight them though. You get monster parts which are useful for a lot of reasons. I wouldn't labor over killing things, but most stuff that you can kill quickly, like Keese and Chuchus, can provide value.

Imo chuchus are decent source of income, since they drop way more of those things than I need.

But that may be an assessment from before I had a dozen rubies and sapphires each.

Sledgehammer is the best "weapon" on the game.
