it'll only change the world if it is cheap and will make money

is it cheap and will make money? if so then i believe it.

yes it's cheap in that deuterium is easy to get (we can collect it from the bottom of the ocean) and AI will presumably handle the other problems. the reactor should be w/e: steel, tungsten, titanium, w/e it is doesn't really matter.

all it does is make money so yes to that as well.

@imamarvel

They basically just combined functionalism (the philosophy of mind version) with relativity from what I understand. Idk if it actually solves anything, we'll see.

Pretty sure whoever figures out how truly harness the power of nuclear fusion... Would completely end all life on earth as it will become completely unstable... the energy emitted from a nuclear fusion reactor will either form a black hole or go full supernova.

the big problem with fusion is that using it wide scale will generate a massive amount of heat, way more than nuclear energy, and there isnt good solution to deal with that yet

also we havent figured out how to harness the energy that is created in the process, kind of important

It turns out the problem of neutron activation of the reactor itself has been solved by making it out of lithium, which decays into even more fuel for the fusion reaction.

Nice.

Lmao, but it's true though.
Why do you think scientist can't sustain the energy when they attempt it? Even if there was a theoretical way to reproduce the energy emitted from nuclear fusion. No known substance on earth will be capable of sustaining the heat for very long before it's molecular structure becomes unstable. Thus impossible.

Then again there are people out there that still believe that humans can fully colonize Mars... When we still haven't even colonized the moon...

The opposite of that, really. There's no magical forcefield, just powerful magnets telling the super-hot hydrogen ions to go that way, which ends up being a circle.

lol literally not.

first, they already did it, just not very well. they have proof of concept, but there is a huge red flag in that they cannot reproduce the effects (the implication is that they are, unfortunately, either lying or they made some mistake that is unclear).

second, we've detonated several fission bombs on the earth and it didn't do any of that shit.

third, black holes can only be formed by collapsing neutron stars. our star is not a neutron star. it will never be a black hole. our entire solar system cannot turn into a black hole.

forth, there is not enough matter (energy) in the entire solar system to go supernova. thermodynamics has a solid, 100% lock on that so no need to worry

fifth, not sure if serious but gonna answer anyway

also, again, a fission reactor would not produce toxic waste or radiation. it COULD explode, but it would be the same as TNT (i.e. no fallout, contamination, etc.).

to be fair the explosion could be very big indeed.

but your car could explode yet you drive it around. anything could explode. your computer could explode. we dont just let things explode :P

The tritium release would be nearly inconsequential given how localized it would be.

Also it would diffuse into the upper atmosphere very quickly.
I guess if the reactor blows, you're more likely to be torn apart or blunt-forced to death than have any significant tritium exposure.

If you're using gen 1 reactors with pressure vessels, then yeah, it could explode.

https://arstechnica.com/science/2022/07/us-regulators-will-certify-first-small-nuclear-reactor-design/

The first Small Modular Nuclear reactors that are inherently safe and don't need pressure vessels or people to do anything to have it safely shut down in a worst case scenario got approved.

https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/first-u-s-small-nuclear-reactor-design-is-approved/

Poland is one of the early customers:
