It's a normal town with a bit of a tourism industry and a bit of a drug problem. There's a Fog World Silent Hill that the majority of the games takes place in. Roads are blocked off or broken, the entire place is abandoned, buildings are often in ruins, and monsters roam. There's an Otherworld Silent Hill. This area typically reflects the psyche of its victims more than the Fog World does alone: Alessa's is rusted and bloody, James Sunderland's is dank and mildewed, Murphy Pendleton's is prison-like and industrial. ultimate_reaver 08/12/22 2:53:04 AM #6:	in the first game, silent hill was depopulated by alessa's powers awakening due to cheryl arriving. it's pretty heavily implied that the town was just swallowed up by it and ended up becoming closed off from the world. the nightmare world is also created by alessa as a tool to torment the people that wronged her, as well as to try to hide from the antagonist of the game. so there is "another dimension" i guess but it's more like the whole area got localized in a crazy paranormal event ~~in silent hill 2 that is all retconned and you don't need alessa around to do any of that stuff, it's just an innate thing that happens and has always been able to happen in silent hill~~ in silent hill 3, the town is reacting again to heather being there. the foggy portion of things is a bit harder to pin down the nature of but nightmare silent hill is 100% caused by the power of the fetus of the god of the town heather is carrying inside of her, and every time it initiates she gets pain and hallucinations. you can maybe reconcile silent hill 2 with this by saying the god is an extension of the power of the town itself, i guess, but it honestly is sort of a plothole and the series never even attempts to explain it in silent hill 4 both of the above situations have nothing to do with anything and is entirely being caused by walter sullivan having done an occult ceremony that is causing crazy stuff to happen when his spirit is nearby. --- I pray god will curse the writer, as the writer has cursed the world with this beautiful, stupendous creation, terrible in its simplicity, irresistible in truth <cite>ultimate_reaver posted [p:967251320] in Is Silent ...
