To do: a few hours (maybe 4 or so I hope) of filing out an appendix, a format check, a reread is my abstract, intro and conclusions, and a revision of my acknowledgements. I should be done by the evening I think.

My committee has already provided the signatures. Almost done, baby.

I defended a couple of weeks ago. This whole process was a little rushed (requiring many late nights and more red bull than I had consumed in my whole life time), so the defense happened knowing I would need to make a fair amount of revisions.

Luckily the feedback from the committee was primarily about stuff I had already planned to do. I was just losing too much brain function due to sleep deprivation (primarily caused by stress and panic rather than any need to stay up all night, to be honest). I can say I have never been more sick of something in my life. I'm sure I'll turn around on it, but right now I want nothing more than to never look at this document or this topic ever again lol.

Thanks! Do you have some good people in mind? Are you seeing up your big oral exam soon? I would say I am fortunate in having a committee that provides fair scrutiny, but is understanding of my need to graduate.

I'm trying to think what my timeline was...I must have turned in my dissertation after I defended for practical reasons, but I think that I was done writing it before my defense...

That is definitely typical, I think. I basically had a second draft of my dissertation sent to the committee, and the final will be a fourth draft with some additional sections. If we pushed graduation to fall, that is mostly likely how this would have happened.

Basically, I am in a situation where my advisor left my university during my PhD (she still met with me almost weekly over Zoom, she's great), and my advisor on paper became somebody that is like 80% retired. So basically there's nobody here to secure funding for me to extend the research a bit, and they looked so my work and told me it was enough and time to write my dissertation. There was enough funding to get me through the summer, so that was the time to finish. It was... intense. I believe my committee situation would also be more complicated. My advisor is still employed as an adjunct to the university I think, in part, to help her deal with unfinished business (such as my project). Her employment ends in October, so there may be some issue where she could not be a co- advisor or I might have had to reform my committee on the fall (as I need 3 employed faculty in the department).

Overall, the final product is definitely not the scope I wanted, and I definitely made some mistakes with some directions I took. But looking at it all, it is enough for the degree, I think. And fortunately my committee does as well.
