Lady Maria of the Astral Clock Tower is the best boss in the game and the extended Soulsborne series

Lady Maria, the DLC final boss and Ludwig are my 3 favorite fights in this game.

This game rocks. It encourages a more aggressive approach as opposed to the Dark Souls series and its so rewarding when you get the hang of the parry and punch system. I love it so much.

Seems like you are doing great TC. Have all the fun man. Enjoy this amazing game.

After about five tries, got it to 50%, nice wings.

I'm sure it's not just me: that's a yo-yo.

Also it seems like I can dodge through the string only sparingly. Or maybe I'm stepping too early/late to pass through it?

Twenty tries, thereabouts. I got him down to half about five times.

The shark giant duo are legit harder than many other bosses in the game.

Just so you know my last three posts were not referring to the sharks.

Orphan attacks with a really strange weapon that makes me think of various kinds of string, bludgeoning, Japanese nature effigies, and kinda gives Orphan a moveset similar to Cleric Beast or Manus, minus the size but with all the reach. It's interesting because Ludwig is seen using the Moonlight Sword, or how he hides on the roof to jump on you, and horsekicks around the arena. Compared to Orphan, he's kind of a brick too, which adds to the madness. I think you can definitely see where they started having ideas for what would become Sekiro in that DLC in particular. Living Failure > Celestial Emissary

They had to pull out the big guns (Sword of Moonlight & crawlers) to make Ludwig & Laurence interesting by comparison, and Maria is just kinda what the player should be, so. He's the one Old Hunters boss that isn't primarily there for story. Orphan makes a lot of top ten favorite bosses for a reason.

With his false wings clarifying Bloodstarved Beast, it is divine. Really interesting boss design. And he's basically just a Souls zombie, with a dogman movement in the 2nd half, and patterny magic similar to Raime but much more visually appealing imo. Iirc the pink thing he uses to attack you with was thought to be a placenta or part of Kos's womb or possibly a degraded fetus or large parasite, or worse... All of the above.

I kinda thought it resembled a stomach or just pure chaos

Amazing bosses like Gael or Isshin or Maliketh are very much post-Orphan, imo.

So apparently just bopping him in the back with tentacles gets a stagger. Hmm.

Yay! Orphan is down! Took me about six tries today. Getting a better look at the second phase it really rewards you for just going in, because a lot of its attacks just seem to go past you if you're moving towards it. It really was the final exam of "don't back off and heal, keep rushing and get it back".

So now all I have left is the endgame of the main story. :D

So @Gladius_ you mentioned one of those areas was your favorite. Which was it?

iirc, I beat it my first or second time fighting it, but I still fought a bit conservatively, so it had me downing blood vials.

Oh yeah that hamlet was straight out of Innsmouth, no question. :)

I also do love the idea that after all the traipsing through the highest echelons of the conspiracy, you pass through the glorious Astral Clocktower, and drop into a stinky, grimy, run-down, unnamed hamlet.

Also think it was a great idea to get a shot of Kos on the beach well before you get close.

I like the puzzles and verticality in the Research Hall, and of course the patients are hideous. I just wish there was a bit more variety in the area, because the place was just about entirely patients with the odd enemy you've already faced before.

And naturally the patients are scaled up powerful to be difficult, but it stretches a bit of believability that they're so quick at taking you down.
