They do call him the god butcher quite a bit. Also the entire movie portrays that Gorr is right, every god we see is terrible (except Thor), and the whole universe would be way better off without the gods. The only reason the audience is supposed to think Gorr is a villain is because he looks creepy and we don't want Thor to die, but Gorr's motivations are totally justified.
