I think owning a small gun for self defense to keep in your home is fine, assuming you're responsible.

Ya'll need to give up on this gun free fantasy. It will never happen in the U.S.

Even restricting it down to a single home defense weapon will never happen.

I'd say automatic weapons should be bannned because they are the most commonly used in mass murders. But handguns and rifles are fine.

Shouldn't guns be free if they are a natural right?
Gun Stores are really taking advantage of this.

I'm not gonna fault Hospitals for the lack of universal health care.
That can't be a normal civil right...we weren't taught that?

Canada has infinitely better gun laws than the us but also than the uk where its damn near impossible to even own one unless you're in agriculture or something.

Full automatics and pistols are incredibly hard to get in Canada and require a ton of extra restrictions. But as far as more target or hunting oriented rifles its not hard to get guns here. Take a one day course and then have a background check.

Pistols you can't even take anywhere except point a to point b and back from your house to the approved range. And you have to call and tell the cops you're doing it and when you'll leave mad be back to make it 100% legal. And that's fine tbh.

Actually I lied pistols come with a ton of extra restrictions bit they aren't that hard to get.

China has alright laws for guns IMO.

Pistols for home defense only.

No carry in city allowed at all.

Long guns for hunting.

They got like 1/4th the gun violence rate that we do.

The difference is that America is the only first world country to actively have a gun loving/worshipping culture. I mean we all seen it for ourselves, if little kids getting gunned down isn't enough to even implement a common sense gun control laws, nothing will.

Nah, "no guns" isn't right. You should be able to have a gun, provided you can pass background and mental health checks, as well as maintain a license for one. We require licenses to drive cars, and those things aren't even meant to kill things, so needing a license for a gun makes even more sense.

Now, this gun-worshipping, psychopathic fetish some people have? That's wrong.

I spent the past 7 years in Japan and Korea and you know what one of the nicest things was? I felt safe literally everywhere. I could be going down the smallest, darkest, shadiest alley in Korea in the dead of night holding a bundle of cash in my outstretched hand and I knew there was a 99% chance of me being fine and you cant beat that kind of secure feeling.

Part of that was that was culture. Part of it was the fact that 90% of the peninsula is covered with CCTV. However, A LOT of it was due to the knowledge that hardly anyone owns a firearm and that, therefore, it would be very difficult to attack me without my being able to escape.

Ive never been interested in guns, so all they are to me is a negation of the peace of mind described above. So, long story short, yes, no guns is right for me.

Handguns are used in more shootings than any other firearm. When is the last time a full auto gun was used in a shooting?

Also if rifles are fine then you are cool with the AR and AK platforms then, right?

Gun manufacturers can be phased out and production of guns and ammo can stop. Unlikely but not impossible. The guns that remain will fall into disrepair eventually.

I thought this was a hypothetical topic... Not for practical solutions

It is worth noting that while guns are certainly effective at making people dead, that doesn't necessarily mean they're the most dangerous.

Think about it this way, something about guns is that most of the time, it's relatively easy to tell who has one. But knives and other weapons aren't so easily noticed.

When's the last time you saw someone in a trench coat casually strolling into a public place holding a bigass cartoon bomb?

The main barrier to removing the vast majority of guns is people arguing that it isn't feasible to remove the vast majority of guns.

I don't think anybody is claiming that they will cease to exist entirely, but if you make possession of them illegal then over time the number will reduce dramatically.
