I have several friends who work swing shifts at jobs like bartenders and such. These jobs require them to have shifts at hours like 4:00 PM to midnight, when most people are still awake but would rather be chilling at home.

In general, there are two possible solutions to this. You can either wake up as if your shift started in the morning and basically end your waking day with work. Or you can wake up in the afternoon just before work and have the evening all to yourself. Which option is preferable to you?

much better to wake up early. if you wake up in the afternoon you might have trouble falling asleep after work, which would alter your sleep schedule and could cause insomnia over a long period of time

Wake up in the morning, so that i still have a normal sleep schedule. I've worked until midnight before. I can go to sleep by 12:30 or 1 and then wake up at like 8 or 9.

I've been doing 4pm to 2am shifts for 5 years almost. I'd get home at about 2:30am and go to sleep at 4am waking up between 11am and 12pm. My body got use to it and I always wake up at noon now.

I'd prefer to work in the morning though the only benefit to this afternoon shift is the ability to sleep in.

I usually wake up around 8-9a most days.

Ive been doing swing for 2 years now and its kind of a great schedule (WFH too).

When I was doing that, I'd go to bed at like 2 and wake up at 10.

Afternoon, I'm a night owl and frequently sleep until the afternoon on days off anyway.
