I played the first series and enjoyed it well enough. Never had much interest in the second.

Downloaded this one off of Game Pass and I'm glad I did. I think I liked it even more than the first one. The powers were interesting, the characters were endearing and the art direction and graphics were quite nice.

If you got Game Pass definitely give it a whirl

Yeah, I was a big fan.

In the end I think I still slightly prefer the first LiS just because Arcadia Bay felt more like a fully realised town, whereas in True Colours we basically got just a street with half-a-dozen people on it, but it's a very, very close second for me.

And, I will say this - it's the only LiS game to date where I think that all of the characters that are supposed to be likable have actually been likable.

Haven felt more realized and fleshed out a bit more imo

I found Arcadia Bay great but it was still a bit rough and I found an unfortunate amount of the characters in LiS1 to be a bit flat, which were definitely not issues I had with True Colors.

The overall story in LiS1 is definitely more gripping though.

I think I'm probably the inverse of your opinion. 3 is my favorite with 1 being a very very close second.

I loved LiS1 and BtS, though 2 was good (but suffered from the drifting nature of the boys on the run), but I just wasn't feeling True Colours. I got to the LARP part and just haven't felt motivated to play it since.

It's interesting in that I see a lot of people who didn't care for the LARP section at all, which I kinda get but I dunno, I loved that chapter.

The LARP bit was amazing.

Definitely wasn't expecting a Life is Strange game to have turn-based combat, haha.

I really liked it after playing it but I felt like the more I sat and thought about it the lesser my view on it became. It very much has a feel of "okay we're making a Life is Strange game, what things need to be in there."

Which is a weird feeling to have because that's literally how all sequel games are made, but Final Fantasy has never made me feel like the developers are essentially rattling off a list of things to be in the game to fit into the franchise.

The town also feels extremely artificial. Everyone is plastic happy go lucky, no conflict exists, perfect harmony. And I don't think the game is doing a clever thing with the ending regarding that. After the end confrontation everything just goes back to normal immediately. The bad guy's role as such wasn't even tied to the larger state of the town that required any sort of introspection after the fact. It's nice that it's all in one place and in walking distance, I guess, but it also means there's no real contrast between anything. Exploring Arcadia Bay was much more satisfying and immersive than the 1.5 streets of Haven Spring (I think that's the name).

I like the idea of Alex's powers and in later chapters they're really well explored, but in general the color coding becomes very intrusive and game-y in a way I don't think needed to be in the game to explain its concept and which wasn't an issue at all with LiS1.

Overall I feel like the Life is Strange moniker kind of hurt it and it could have been more creative with its storytelling as its own thing. Which is not to say I dislike it outright. I think the game starts kind of weak, but sort of recovers by chapter 3 and despite everything else it's pretty decent throughout the rest. Especially the LARP is really fun. A lot of the characters are great. I really like Ducky and Charlotte in particular.

The ending choice is kind of weird. I don't feel like Alex would go for either option, and one of them being given a whole cutscene to explain while the other is just "if you don't like that, do this instead" is eh. I guess that's in line with the first game as well, though.

Also Ryan is boring, who would pick him?

The concept of empathy as a super power has become a thing some people think is real. Not cause of the game but because they heard the word and now think they have some special ability besides just a normal human ability to read emotions like 90% of people can do and don't consider a special ability. Anyone who self identifies as an empath is just insufferable.

For that reason alone the game just annoyed me.

i mean it's not that having empathy is a superpower but that your sense of empathy is so supernaturally strong you can literally "see" other peoples emotions and memories.

your loss tho
