If I picked just one it would be The Last of Us. Witcher 3 or any Bioware game would also be up there.

Definitely pokemon. So much hype for games that do nothing new and have never been ground breaking in any sort of way. And people applaud its mediocrity.

In summary, every single highly rated game that's ever been released is overrated.

It was mind blowing when it first came out. Sucks now.

This is an unpopular opinion - but one I agree with.

Also, the most overrated: Super Mario 64.

Halo CE and CoD 4 are tied for me. Both did some cool stuff, but people acted like they revolutionized the genre when I feel like they went backwards in a lot of ways. Halo had to reduce speed pretty drastically in comparison to unreal and quake because of the controller format, and the weapon variety + only holding 2 weapons kinda stinks.

I think the biggest thing I object to that those games started was "you get 2 guns and no more". Still prefer the arcadey TTK that Halo had, but I definitely miss some of the systems from Perfect Dark in terms of console shooters, or Unreal/quake for PC.

Lol. I remember when that game came out and a friend got a Dreamcast just so they could play it-- I was watching for a bit & I just thought, "Meh."

I love Ocarina of Time though.

That game is like Disney magic to me.

Any of the cinematics simulators that get championed as art, really. SoTC and Last of Us are good shouts.

I'd also mention Skyrim, Resident Evil 7 and Minecraft.

Elden Ring, it's good but some people really take their love of it too far.

Either OoT or MM. Really, really not a fan of either of them.

Final Fantasy 7

mario 64

NES's Super Mario Bros 2. Really not that great a game. Loves to waste your time with obtuse mechanics. Leave the arcade at the bar.

SNES's Super Mario World. Actually a horrible game. It looks ugly and washed, defeating the entire purpose of Mario. I forgive 64 because it was revolutionary as a sim.

N64's Mortal Kombat 4. Holy shit. May as well have called it Mortal Combat. And it's sad because the game has some really cool stuff. But Mortal Kombat this just is not. I play for the realistic gore first and foremost. Not to play as John Tobias's artwork. Bad direction. Ruined the series.

And this brings us to

GC's Sonic Adventure 2 Battle. I'm missing the first one already. While this was an improvement on the first in almost every way, it lacked a key component which was a verrrrrrry careful attempt at creating the universe from the "comics" (we're talking a vague, vague thing here. Like, the feeling the cover art gives you and that's what they wanted the game to be) and it's been missing ever since. Essentially doomed the series to crappy gimmicks and eternal send-offs. Pretty sure the OG fanbase is gone. And it sucks because Shadow is pretty cool. It's the shoes. They're angular. He has like Gundam feet or something haha

Wii: Metroid Prime 3 >__<

Switch: Breath of the fucking Wild. Nobody can tell me what they like about this game besides mostly just standing in a feel, watching the wind lick the grass like you didn't play Journey, and going to yourself "Ahh... Breath of the Wild." Like, the endgame has some amazing crafting and abilities you can get? And while the overworld is empty, and world isn't exactly as strong as Windwaker or Ocarina, it's a great zelda game with countless mechanic, puzzles, and other ways to interact with objects in a lush dynamic environment? Like, oh man if I were 10 again, this would have been the jam? I dont get it haha

They turned Link into VaatiVidya. It's actually a really weird game. Not bad, but overrated.

Earthbound

Gameplay that was janky and archaic even for its time, and a horribly limited inventory system. Some other mechanics that seemed to add charm but were just tedious (like having to go to an ATM and get your money before you could shop).

Funny I think alttp the past is the most overrated zelda. It's good but not as good as people act imo. Link between worlds I didnt like ar first but I ended up getting really into it.

I liked thr concept of doing things in any order pretty much. Only improvement is maybe not buy/rent the tools/items but find them in the overworld. Like you kinda gotta go in a sequence to a degree for that. Need this item to be able to reach that item but if you just go and get all the items then you can do the dungeons in any order. The sequence of the items will help know the "correct" order of dungeons if you wanna do easy ones first.

Anyways for me I guess world of War craft.
Massively popular game but I could never get into it. Already don't like most online games but I figured I'd do as much as I could solo. Tried twice got bored before even passing the starting areas both times.

pokemon is an amazing concept (going out in the woods catching bugs, except it's fantasy creatures) done in the most boring fucking way possible
it's the biggest waste of potential ever
