It sounds silly but every time I've asked some variation of the question, the only responses I get are "People are allowed to like what they like!". Nobody's ever explained why they prefer turn-based combat to real time combat systems.

Real time combat isn't that great and if it turned the series to that then fast pokemon would be the only meta ones since slow ones would be easy targets

Some people just prefer a back-and-forth combat style compared to real time.

I mean, they're leaving money on the table not doing Nier-style games, but that's on the producer rather than consumer.

Easier to do one-handed.

All better than whatever boxing game you have in mind.

Same reason I play any turn-based game, because it's fun to me. Literally all that matters.

Turn based requires more strategy and thought

Not every game needs to just depend on reflex and thumb skills

Honestly, at least in the case of pokmon, I actually would rather it be turn-based. Gives it a sort of chess-like quality

Pokeymans specifically has built up a complexish battle system with intricacies that people are used to now. Plus fans have individual pokeymans that they've carried through the generations and it's neat being able to use the same old tricks in a new setting. Completely discard the battle system and it's a waste of all those resources and everyone's collections.

But yeah, turn based fights can get sleepy and I welcome changing things up now and then like in Legends Arceus (which, yes, was still kind of turn based but still had a different system).

I think they could make a hybrid battle system sort of like Final Fantasy / Chronic Trigger's ATB system that could still benefit faster Pokemon while also not being completely sweep heavy

I actually hate real time strategy games because they often devolve into rote memorization instead of actual strategy. It's why I prefer the civilization games, where you actually benefit from planning.

Not a Pokemon fan at all, but I'm a chronic multitasker and turn based is much easier to set down, or have a min before your next move to shitpost on CE.

Pokemon though, does need to stay turn based for the main series games to keep the all ages feel of it, since a young kid or a senior citizen will have completely different reaction speeds than those in in between

Its relaxing and less stressful to pick your moves. Its an instance of if its not broke dont try to fix it.

it wouldn't work well with ATB, because speed would be an OP stat
