Particularly in the sense that so many couples insist they are soulmates. I mean, really? 8 billion people on the planet and you just happen to encounter "the one" who's meant for you?

I think it's more pragmatic to conclude there are many people around the world who are potential soulmates for you, people who would all equally get along with you, share interests and love you unconditionally. The fact that you may find one of them is great, but it doesn't mean there's *one* person for you.

I'm sure this sounds jaded. Maybe it is.

What if geographic, linguistic, or cultural separation are just the landscape fate works with to bring the right two together?

If you believe in the concept of soulmates, the concept of destiny wouldn't be far behind.

The improbability is what makes the concept so romantic in the first place.

My wife and I were born in the same hospital and met 1200 miles away.
Of course, the city I live in is and was a popular place to move to, are interests drove us together, etc. But I do think it'd be very unlikely to meet other people like us.
