It's not an all time thing like there's days I can taste and smell just fine then there's other days where nothing taste right. Regular soda tastes like diet, among other stuff.

I also have a hard time breathing if it gets slightly muggy out or warm in my house.

Apparently my lungs are fine but I'm still having trouble on occasion.

This shit sucks and I thought I wouldn't have any long term effects

My mom can't walk across the living room without getting winded, and she was double vaxxed with a booster.
The longterm effects can be brutal.

I have a friend that has likely permanently lost their sense of taste and smell, as it hasn't returned to them over a year and a half after the fact.

Covid is no joke, all the assholes that intentionally don't vaccinate can fuck off.

Damn. This doesn't bold well for me. Im at the beginning of dealing with the lost of taste.

Stick in there man. Before all this Covid shit, Ive had gotten medical conditions that were super severe for years and they just went away and never came back. The body and brain are unpredictable.

Im talking my lungs would feel like someone was sitting on them every day. That was 10 years ago and it just never came back. Just focus on conquering the mental end. The rest will follow.

I don't get it all because I apparently had a mild case but still dealing with the after effects.

I feel more drained early on in the day ever after getting a good sleep.

I can't confirm nor deny I caught covid, but my sense of smell gradually got worse and more messed up since March 2020. At first I thought the strange smell was just some dust getting warm around my pc, then I noticed it in bed and thought maybe it was stronger than I realized, but when I came back to work August 2020 and noticed the smell it finally clicked with me that my sense of smell was messed up. Now almost 2 years later and it's still messed up.

Yeah. Some of a person's strength is about being able to lose crutches and keep sprinting tho. Just gotta find a different place for the importance that went there. Like, lucky for me, Ill always have the love for my nieces/nephews to keep me going. As long as I feel like Im a positive for them when Im around, Ill keep pushing. Which, I just do that by being open about how great I think they are and how important they are to me while we play games. The sad part is that though it does make an impact, you gotta accept they still need nourishment other places too. Nomatter how much I compliment my niece, her hearing it from outside her family will always have way more impact. So, it becomes more about trying to get them to be able to build that community for themselves. It's tough.

Had it around Christmas. Two doses of vaccination, was going to get my booster the same week I got infected.

Now I get winded easily when walking a good distance or up and down stairs, and it's sometimes difficult for me to get that breath back.

I also still have lingering brain fog that makes me blank on words a lot and has noticeably dulled my reaction time in games, and it's hard for me to concentrate on things now. When I was infected my brain fog was bad enough that there was one day I forgot how to do my job.

You consciously combating this in any way? Im pretty motivated to fight and win this battle. I feel like people should start coming together to figure out how we're gonna rebuild ourselves. I fully believe we can beat this stuff. I've been through quite a few mental mind fucks in my life before. I don't plan on losing to this.

I've been doing a lot more reading, focusing on D&D and other RPG rule books that have fiction mixed in with rule systems, with the goals of not only staying in shape as a Dungeon Master but also to keep my mind exercised. I also watch TV with noise-canceling headphones on now so I'm not distracted by outside noise and have been messing around with LEGO to keep my creativity up.

I mean, my memory is already pretty bad without covid so maybe I can help lol

There are a few things I do like setting alarms on my phone for important tasks, taking notes on procedures that I can follow later, inputting appointments and such on google calendar, etc.

I also take a herbal supplement, bacopa monnieri, that seems to have helped a bit with my cognition (it takes ~6 weeks for full effect though).

Oh yeah, you definitely ain't just giving up then. All that sounds like what a clever person would do in this situation. Just gotta stay thankful you kept that clever core :3. I never got into reading. So, I doubt I could lean on that now. Though, maybe I should try anyway. Definitely not the stuff you're reading. Those were already hard for me to comprehend while reading. A plus is that music is hitting for me way harder again since I got it. I was getting scared it made me completely numb to music.

Yeah. Me memory been fried too. I definitely already built a lot of my social relationships around that fact. I accepted not being the guy with the good memory a long time ago. Gotta get in where you fit in. I tried writing down notes while playing Elden Ring. Id look back at them and be like "....uhh...what is this referencing?" >_<. Then I just quit trying like 90 hours in. Ill ask about supplements at my doc appointment tomorrow.

I had side effects for about 8 months after. Dizzy spells and light headedness. Taste and smell were only gone for 2 weeks, and afterward it only affected the taste of cool ranch Doritos for some reason.

Thankfully after about 8 months those all stopped. So, hopefully they do for you as well.

You a good dude. So, I know you're sincere when you say that and it should be appreciated.

Also, like I said earlier, Im not new to having severe issues that later work themselves out. So, I have hope Ill have a similar experience. Though, my taste is definitely far more fucked up. These grapes right now are actually kind of hitting. My morning muffin sucked tho. Chicken wings last night literally had zero taste. This is really satisfying my excessive need to examine the human brain tho. It's like a new stage of discoveries. I feel like that personal interest is gonna serve me well through this. Everything being adjacent to my normal understanding of the world is an interesting journey. Dare I say, slightly fun?

Makes me wonder if one of the long term effects is having problems not remembering much of a drive somewhere or what time I took my medicine, etc like basic stuff but have no issues remembering long term things or things I've done before if that makes sense.

It's not as bad as it was about two months ago, I didn't feel like myself

I don't drive myself but when I go somewhere with someone, I don't remember most of the drive but details like what roads we take, etc.

Nice :3. Just please stay mindful that you can still mess someone else up pretty bad if you're not careful.

I also have a bad sense of smell normally and can't tell how much it was effected.

I've had balance issues and other inner ear problems since recovering in June of 2020, including random days where the inside of my ear down through my jaw hurts like crazy

Having one of those days today actually. Bummer, too, cause it had been over a month and I was starting to feel hopeful.

My wife went from running 30 minutes a day for fun to getting winded walking up the stairs. It's been almost a year.
