What does Conservatism mean to you?

Generally speaking:

-Fear of the future
-An unwillingness to change
-Overwhelming desire to blame the 'other' instead of the 'self'

No deflections. Spell out what he means, even just in your head. Can you make it sound kind and respectful? Is it an idea you believe in? Do you think the answers to those questions are clear to everybody? If so, why do you think we all already know the answers to those questions? It's a great opportunity to spot your own patriarchal biases. That's what the tweet in the op is for.

Please don't be deflected into talking about the validity of both sides-ism.

But it makes no sense. LGBT didn't turn Ellen to Elliott. They transitioned themselves. So who took what from the bigots?

One of the best parts of Season 3 of Umbrella Academy is when Vanya looks into a window, sees a selection of hair styles, has a moment of quiet self-reflection...then shows up to the family meeting with short hair. Diego calls him Vanya, and then Viktor says "I'm Viktor, I always have been"...And his entire family is immediately accepting. All of them. Every single one. Luther later suggests throwing a party so Viktor feels accepted and loved, but Diego just says, in lieu of that..."Luther wants to throw you a big, stupid party so you feel loved...Do you feel loved?" Viktor smiles and says "Yeah, I do."

And the next time he looks into a reflection, his sister asks him what he sees. He says "Me."

And that's it. He's Viktor now. Nobody being all melodramatic about it, nobody being upset or harboring some kind of resentment about it. There was no weird, forced drama in the situation. There was just a small handful of scenes of different people finding out and being respectful and accepting even though there were serious things going on elsewhere in the story.

Even when characters were mad at Viktor, they all respected his identity. Proper pronouns, his new name, all of it.

Wouldn't it be nice if people would just be like that in real life?
