Like on one hand I can definitely see the advantages of PC gaming vs. console gaming. But when people talk about how great PC gaming is I feel like it paints a picture that everything will go perfectly, ignoring the fact that you have to give up a lot of conveniences you get from console gaming.

In my experience from trying to get into PC gaming, there are some games that dont work that well, some games that cant be played with controller and require keyboard + mouse, internet speed seems way slower, and overall is more expensive to maintain if something goes wrong and you have to replace some parts. Compare that to a console where you just plug in and play, everything generally works the way its supposed to without needing any extra setup. Ive always just felt at home with console gaming, while trying to get into PC gaming feels like more of a chore than actually having fun.

Still cheaper than consoles

Console gaming is too bothersome because of the subscription fees required to play online, just for the online experience to be much much laggier in addition to console's native input delay

If something goes wrong on console, your options are send it in for repair or buy a new one.

I've never seen anyone say its perfect. It just has the potential to be a lot better quality than console gaming. I think the problem is that its intimidating. People dont know how to build a PC despite it being easier than it looks.

The same games that took me hours to download on Playstation takes me 20 mins or so on PC so idk what you mean by internet times are better. Crossplay games usually have higher ping for console players from what i've seen.

Also, i play most of my games on controller. The only game that I have to use KBM on is RTS games or Baldurs gate.

I think there's an advantage in some areas for console gaming but your reasons arent it

Looked into the "internet speed" thing just to give hard numbers anyway

PS5 and Xbox Series X both have 1 gigabit ethernet ports. Can't find a number for Switch but it's Nintendo and the regular switch doesn't even have an ethernet port so I'm just gonna ignore that lol. Any modern mobo today, even budget ones, have at least 1 Gb, some even 2.5. So that's definitely a perception error on your end

Well first of all if one is showing Mbps and the other is showing MB/s those are different units of measurement. I think 8 Mbps is 1 MB/s.

Also wifi vs Ethernet makes a difference, I've got both wired via Ethernet to the same switch.

It's annoying and convenient in different ways, as is console gaming. Just depends on which set of hassles you'd prefer to have to deal with.

Plus the louder, more elitist members of that community are every bit as obnoxious as the console fanboys they meme on. So again, just depends on which set of assholes you'd rather be associated with.

400 megabits = 50 megabytes

And Steam has the option of picking a different download location if the default server is slow. Try a different server to see if you get better results.

Well then that's why your download speeds are slow. Not because of any inherent problem with PC.

Regardless, have you considered either moving the router or running an ethernet line through the walls?

Then how do you explain getting significantly faster download speeds on Xbox? Like anything that takes only a couple minutes to download there takes like an hour to download on steam, and that assuming its actually a consistent download because there are times where steam just randomly stops the download all together.

Regardless, have you considered either moving the router or running an ethernet line through the walls?
My roommate pays for our WiFi and relies on it being close by because she works downstairs. So again, not an option.

Assuming you're not confusing megabits with megabytes as previously suggested, there are several factors that can result in different speeds for wi-fi. The PC's wireless card could be shit, you might be connecting to the wrong band, the Xbox might be in a position that gets a better singal.

My Xbox and PC are in the same area so I dont see why it would matter that much. I guess I havent paid much attention to the wireless card so maybe that could be the issue.

Ive literally tried running a long Ethernet cord down the stairs and all the way to the router so I could get a wired connection and my roommates got mad at me for running a long cord through the house that was in the way and easy to trip over so I had to take it away. So once again, thats unfortunately not a valid option for me.

Same, TC. Ive tried, but its just for me.

One of the biggest things for me when I want to game is being able to kick back in my comfy chair and play on my nice big TV. Cant do that on my computer which is located in a different room (sO jUsT mOvE iT, unfortunately I just dont have the room in my apartment to do so).

I also like the convenience of consoles. Its nice being able to turn on the console and just play the damn video game. The majority of times Ive attempted to play a game on PC, theres always been some stupid thing that made it a chore (whether it was trying to make it controller compatible, the game just not running properly, etc. etc.)

I know the cool kids here are going to either downplay my complaints, accuse me of lying, or some other kind of nonsense but I know what Ive experienced and so far nothing has convinced me that PC > consoles for gaming.

Buy a wifi extender. My router is downstairs in my living room behind my TV. I'm currently upstairs in my office with my gaming PC and 4 other things directly connected to a network switch connected to a wifi extender. $70 (because it's a wifi 6 extender) + $15 for the network switch for more than just PC gaming. Or the significantly cheaper option is a powerline adapter like someone else said. MOCA adapters are a third option but they are the most expensive of these three options.
