Back in the old days of MMA the idea was to prove what you trained was superior, so it could also be a pride thing. After one leg kick though I'm tapping out, the sports are apple to oranges and he's lucky he didn't get hurt bad.

Yeah that was brutal. Boxer didn't help himself any by maintaining a distance that allowed the kickboxing dude to make full use of his skills though. He still would have had a helluva time but being in close beats eating kicks to the face.

Boxing as a sport has more people doing it full time and as a living, which result in more high end athletes.

That's the thing most people don't get about Boxing, it's not really a fighting style, it's a sport. It's a sport where you're fighting with severe limitations. You're not allowed to kick, you're not allowed to tackle them to the ground, you're not allowed to them from behind, etc. That's the whole point of boxing, conditioning yourself to follow the rules and beating your opponents with such major disadvantages. Kick boxing on the other hand doesn't have the same limitations, they're allowed more freedom on what they can do and as the result they're going to win more likely because of it. Now if a kickboxer were to challenge a boxer to a boxing match, they're most likely going to lose because it would almost be fighting a newbie because kick boxers don't have the same conditioning regarding the sport as a boxer.

this applies to kickboxing too, you cant use elbows and knees, like Muay Thai does. And then this applies to Muay Thai too, it is a sport where you condition yourself to a specific ruleset, there are no groin strikes and headbutts in Muay Thai, but there are in lethwei, it is a never ending chain
