I enjoy the FF series and I think Nioh has the best and most complicated combat system of any game. I heard the graphics were really bad but they look fine in all videos I watched. How's the combat? Do you have any control over your companions?

Its great. Combat in Strangers of Paradise doesnt get boring since there are so many different hobs to choose from and the main character can switch between two jobs on the fly during the mission. I would say its much better than Nioh 1 but not as good as Nioh 2 combat wise(its not as deep). Theres still a lot to learn about the gameplay, however. Parrying moves is important in SoP if you want an easier time especially on the harder modes. Its vital to understand what each boss is capable of if thats your thing. Theres gameplay elements such break gauge, using a mechanic called Soul Shield correctly which is crucial to beating bosses on harder difficulties, chain canceling, command abilities, and so on.

Each job has a special ability and different properties that set it apart from other jobs that use the same weapon. For example, Pugilist and Tyrant can both use Knuckles as a weapon but Pugilists special ability allows the player to keep pummeling an opponent nonstop while Tyrants special ability allows the player to enchant their weapon with an element to target an enemys weakness. You can also experiment and try out plenty of different builds with each job since theres a lot of equipment in this game just like Nioh. Youll be able to save each build you like as well so that you can freely come back to it.

The missions and levels in the game are structured similar to Nioh as well. Each level is based off of a location from a previous FF game so if youve played a majority of mainline FF, youre in for a lot of great fan service. The music is good, too.

You can change your companions load out/class before each mission and you can tell them to use Resonance which is basically the companion going all out and become very aggressive .

The story in Stranger of Paradise starts out kind of hammy with the Gotta kill Chaos bits but make sure you pay attention. The story in SoP is actually a lot better than it seems at first but thats all I can say without spoiling anything.

Overall, its a very good game in my opinion. Since you like Nioh, you definitely wont go wrong with trying Stranger of Paradise.

Thanks! I appreciate all the info. Are the graphics as bad as reviewers say?

At launch, it was pretty bad but a few patches have made the game look noticeably better depending on what platform youre on. The devs added anti-aliasing to smooth out the game a bit. The tutorial level looks the worse but later levels look better for the most part. Turning off HDR will probably help, too. I think part of the reason why the game looks the way it does is due to some of the models, such as the small bat enemies, having over 300,000 polygons which is double and triple the amount of polygons of a playable character in a standard PS4/Xbox One game.

Though honestly, after the first few levels, you eventually get used to how the game looks.

Thanks again. I'll probably being playing on an Xone X or a PS pro. I've been wanting to wait for a sale with the DLC coming in a couple weeks but maybe I'll just pull the trigger
