Man, I hate that so much.

I dont necessarily think thats a wrong thing to say. If you like X, Y, and Z in a certain series, and its no longer there in one of the games, but despite that, its a good game, isnt that fair to say?

Why? Breath of the Wild is a good open world game, but it plays hardly anything like a normal Zelda game. It's not at all a good example of the series, for instance.

That doesn't necessarily make it a "bad" or "not good" Zelda game. It can still be acknowledged as a good Zelda game that's simply doing something a bit different from the other titles in the series.

The opposite could also be true, where a major feature gets added and changes the game so drastically that it alienates part of the existing fanbase.

For example, the three "advanced movement" Call of Duty games. A lot of CoD fans didn't like them and just wanted boots-on-the-ground gameplay to come back, but if those games didn't have the CoD name attached to them and were marketed to fans of more futuristic shooting games like Halo and Titanfall, they would have been a lot more well-received.

I guess I'm just the type of person that's open to a series/franchise experimenting, because if it's good, it would just be another good entry in said series that's doing something different from the other entries.

Which is so silly. To some people, in order for something to be an "acceptable" entry in a given franchise, it must adhere to every aspect that said franchise is known for and don't deviate too much. Otherwise, even if it's really good in its own right, it should have been called something else, amirite?

This is literally why people hate Halloween 3.

That being said sometimes it is good to have Super Mario Bros 2 Japanese edition over the American edition. I don't really care for the direction Naughty Dog went with Crash 3, adding all sorts of moves. Crash is a great series because it is like a 2D platformer with an extra dimension, it doesn't need all the added moves.

I've always liked the idea of Halloween III -- a Halloween film where Meyers isn't the antagonist. And I really dug the concept of making the Halloween franchise an anthology where each movie deals with different kinds of monster with the central theme being Halloween. That would have been really interesting if they could have pulled it off.
But as for H3 itself, I thought it was just a mediocre film in general. Loved the idea though. Wish their initial plans could have worked out. Would have probably been more fun to watch than all the Halloween films after it that we did end up getting...
