Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene said she believes children should learn how to use firearms to protect themselves in the event of a school shooting.

Speaking at a House Rules Committee meeting about the Second Amendment, Greene on Friday suggested the firearm training would help ward off potential danger.

"If my children are in school and a mad man with a gun comes to a school to kill people, unfortunately a psychologist is not going to be able to just talk him out of it," she said in a conversation with Rep. Jamie Raskin of Maryland. "That is not a good way to protect kids."

Asked by Raskin whether she thinks the students should be armed, Greene said, "I think children should be trained with firearms."

Following the horrific Uvalde, Texas, school shooting last month, she said the US is "failing our youngest generations from decades of rejecting good moral values and teachings."

"We don't need more gun control," Greene said in a tweet. "We need to return to God."

Rather than stop guns from slaughtering innocent children, we need to just train the children to have firefights inside their classrooms with the shooter?

Is that the best idea the GOP can come up with on school shootings? Having 10 year olds shooting it out inside the classroom?

While I don't think slicing the pie and learning to breach and clear should be taught alongside algebra, basic firearm knowledge should be available and encouraged for anyone interested.

We should just go full on Klingon society. The son of a Klingon is a man the day he can first hold a blade.

You say this like it shouldn't be the case. Kids should absolutely be trained in the use of firearms at an early age if purely to avoid accidents of ignorance.

Besides, kids younger than 10 are exposed to guns in media like every hour of the day.

If you have children and you insist on keeping guns in your home then it honestly really would behoove you to teach those children about firearm safety as early as possible. Maybe that way those very same children won't be so compelled to pick up those guns and use them to shoot themselves, their friends, or the rest of their loved ones and family if they actually understood how dangerous they are.

This was standard during the pioneer days.

Just send 10 year olds to the military, free weapons training and discipline!

The kids of Al Qaeda are. Of course, that's what Republicans want for the USA.

I don't know... won't teaching kids how to use firearms also indirectly teaches a potential school shooter how to use one?

Likewise, won't holding shooting drills also indirectly teaches a potential shooter where to go if he wants to cause maximum casualties?

There's no good solutions here (other than the obvious ones).

I knew all the basics of firearm safety bu the age of ten.

In a country where guns are as common as water, kids should know the basics and what to do if they encounter a gun. Know that they are not a toy and how to get help.
