Why does everyone hate Mega Force?

It was meant to be epic, but did so much wrong. For one the second season that adapted Gokaiger should have been it's own show, and not an upgrade. The characters were bland, and Andrew Gray who played Troy has to be the most boring PR actor ever.

Season 2 of MMPR

There is no amount of nostalgia or Tommy-stanning that can salvage this absolute trash heap. Even season 1, which was vapid children's brain candy, at least had the production values of Toei footage to carry its worst episodes. Season 2 doesnt even have that for the majority of its run. >_>

I can only judge up to Time Force since that's when I jumped ship, but I remember liking Lightspeed the least. Other than that, Turbo was really goofy but since it had established characters from MMPR/Zeo that I already cared about, it lessened the blow.

Pretty much all the newer stuff seems like garbage to me, though I'm obviously not the intended audience anymore. But the acting just comes off as super forced, even compared to earlier stuff where it felt like the characters actually had personalities and developed over the course of multiple seasons (and had like 3x the amount of episodes per season to flesh them out).

Power Rangers ended for the first time when they switched out the red ranger, the black ranger, and the yellow ranger for new characters. If you make it past the first movie, you probably didn't make it too far past Turbo. After the stuff in space, or rather during, the show regresses away from mature themes and I guess that was around the time they did.. idk, Lightspeed Rescue? They started to go back more to the original formula and there's also the Sentai stuff happening in Japan, and they brought the original cast members back and other rangers from older series, and it became this thing it is today. Idk. They changed gears hard during the space stuff. So that's probably where you can consider the original arc to be done. I think Zordon was missing at the time

Easily Mega Force/Super Mega Force. Operation Overdrive is a very close second.

Gokaiger is probably one of the GOAT sentai seasons due to its memorable characters and tons of fanservice.

Mega Force, on the other hand, has some of the blandest characters in all of PR (Troy is legitimately the worst Red Ranger of all time and that's NOT an exaggeration) and utterly fails at being an anniversary season due to lazily copy-pasting the Sentai footage without even bothering to make it fit into the context of Power Rangers.

It's still campy and cheesy as all hell, and the special effects will never hold, but there's certain seasons that are very well written and have a great cast of characters. The main ones for me being In Space, Time Force, Dino Thunder, SPD and RPM.

I'd say well written generally. Outside of the cheesy dialogue PR likes to cram in from time to time

Dont get me wrong I like power rangers, and I have watched a lot of YouTube videos about the later seasons out of curiosity, but I couldnt imagine actually watching a whole episode, let alone a whole season

Originally it was Samurai. Then Mega force/Super Mega Force had to come out of nowhere and screw up everything. And I get that there are a lot of seasons of Super Sentai they never brought over stateside, but my god, how do you manage to mess up a home run? Angel Force or whatever it was called originally had such a simple premise, 5 rangers get sent into a video game; and Armada/Gokaiger was an alien captain came to Earth to recruit 4 other rangers against the forces of evil.

This is why I hated the later seasons. They took stupid shortcuts. Instead of introducing a brand new cast, they just repurposed the cast of the previous season.

Yeeeaaah. Even though MMPR is by far the most popular season, it's pretty much general consensus amongst the PR fandom that MMPR does not hold up well at all outside of nostalgia. Most people that have been keeping up with Power Rangers place several seasons above it.

Honestly, I'd check out RPM if you're interested. It's a post-apocalyptic Power Rangers season (and as such, has a much darker tone than most Ranger seasons) with fantastic characters all around (especially the black and green rangers as well as the season's mentor) and it's also meta as fuck, since it'll make fun of the dumber parts of Power Rangers, like the random explosions, the color-coded costumes or how the designs for the Zords make no practical sense.

The one where it was Morbin' -er I mean- Morphin' Time.

I mostly stick to Sentai and Ultraman these days, but for me it's just 30 minutes of casual entertainment. I like the costumes/practical effects. I like the intricately detailed city models and watching them get blown up. I like the fight choreagraphy. I like the camp and melodrama. The plots are usually silly but there's usually enough effort put into them that they're fun to watch, and you get the occassional gem.

There's just not a lot else like it, tbh. Most of the comparable "adult" media doesnt scratch the same itch. I guess most of the hallmarks of tokusatsu would be seen as cheesy or outdated by today's standards, but it's really fun. >_>

Like, as cool as the modern Godzilla movies look, for instance, I'll never get tired of seeing Godzilla demolish that big model pagoda in the older films, lol

Did you guys know that Trinis daughter is bringing back the original power rangers on Netflix for a 30th anniversary?

Hasbro has been frustratingly tight-lipped about its Power Rangers projects (despite initially announcing them like, three years ago now, lol).

The most that I thought we knew is that the next series might be called "Cosmic Fury" and is scheduled to have a much shorter production than usual.

Wut? I know David Yost is writing Quantum Continuum, a reunion 8-episode show that fans are campaigning for Netflix to pick up, but I dont think theres any official news on it, is there?
