I wouldn't really put it in terms of passing/failure. It's more about completion than passing or falling a set of criteria. Don't get me wrong, there are ways you can get kicked out of a PhD program, but for most people who don't compete it I think there's simply a point where continuing is not worth their time. I'm in engineering, where I can essentially quit and get a decent salary at any time. Idk how many people quit, but I am aware of a few.

Once you get that title, you get it for life. It feels pretty good to have, and the few years of stress are easily forgotten when you are done.

Just keep pushing through!

I hope you come out of it earning mid 6 figures. Meanwhile, I can't be bothered so I'll just spend the 10 dollars and buy a piece of land in Scotland just so I can add Lord to the front of my name.

I'm looking forward to my post-school life. I've been in school a long time...

Basically, I do earthquake simulations on building structures. My dissertation is focused on a relatively new type of seismic system in the US.

NOPE. In my industry, PhD's don't affect your starting salaries. Moving up is sometimes accelerated, though, and there are some perks if you get into litigation. At the start of this I was considering academia, though. I decided against it, but it was important to me to open up the opportunity to do so even a year ago.
