the Superfriends

I recognize Apache Chief of course, my favorite when I was a kid, and the wonder twins are quite obvious. But who is the electricity guy supposed to be, black lightning? I have no idea who the leader is supposed to be

They were unstable clones and fell apart.

Young Justice also had a bunch of Super Friend throwbacks as well.

There were a bunch of Super Friends references in the later seasons. They even went hammy enough to do the new Legion of Doom's swampy headquarters

Thanks.

I kinda figured they'd do something like that.

The children from Super Friends were graphically killed off years ago. DC can't let anything that isn't grim and edgy exist -- even if it's from an earlier continuity that should have no bearing on the present. If Adam West hadn't won people's hearts in the years leading up to his passing, I'm sure Batman '66 would be brought back and killed off in some disrespectful manner.

I hate Marvel/Disney having a near monopoly on successful superhero content, but I can't really empathize that much with DC.

marvel did something similar. In Spiderverse, the main villain visited the universe of an old cartoon called Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends. And he murdered the main characters of that show. It's considered canon now that those characters are dead

I actually agree, even though I never watched the show. The issue where the above event happened was pretty disturbing. I didn't really like seeing them die

I totally missed that part. My mom didnt and she said the film was awful and mean spirited and I guess this must be why she said that.

I meant the comics. Sorry

The comic version of Spiderverse is a totally different story than the animated movie. And it had some really dark moments

In the comics version, there is a family of universe hopping villains who "eat" Spider-Man copies across the multiverse. A bunch of Spider characters band together for survival to fight back. The main villain in one part is seen going to a bunch of universes and eating those Spider-Men. And at one point we him slaughter the cast of that cartoon show

Comics still sometimes pair Spider-Man with Starfire and Iceman, right? It's kind of pointless to kill off the "Amazing Friends" universe if those three characters still exist and sometimes still appear on comic covers together.

Besides, you would think that Marvel/Disney would be all about pairing their most popular character with a strong female lead and their premier gay male superhero.

Yes the 616 version of Iceman and Starfire are still alive. But it isn't the super innocent, happy go lucky childish people of the Amazing Friends universe. Those are dead. One of the reasons the scene is disturbing is because you see the contrast between a happy innocent world and sudden murder. If I remember right we get see the characters before the villain arrives, and they are doing their thing. And then he pops in and attacks. And in their moment of death, they are still confused and the villain comments on how their universe is so innocent that their minds are incapable of understanding what he is doing to them

Obviously, they're not going to be the happy, innocent versions.

It's not like current Superman is the 1940s Superman. Every character goes through a filter of his or her current generation. It just seems petty and pointless to go back and kill off an earlier version of a character.

Apache chief definitely (and my favorite version so far, I love Tye Longshadow)

There are certainly twins, but not any wonder twins. I didn't see any other throwbacks

Longshadow - Apache Chief
Static - Black Vulcan
El Dorado - El Dorado
Asami Koizumi - Samurai

Basically if you ever see an Apache Chief homage look at the people around him, they are likely homages too.
