Why else would they back down? I think even if Shanks is weaker than Kaido, it just hypes up his crew

Kid and Killer who encountered Shanks had his arm cut off by him straight up calls Kaido the strongest pirate in the world.

Given by what we know of Kaido, Shanks probably just got him drunk

Yonko are still stronger den admirals, and Oda will cement dat when Luffy rekts an admiral in a few weeks

with how things are being set up, there are a couple things that I think could happen here:

Blackbeard killing Shanks is one.

the second one is more of a stretch, but I still think it's plausible regardless:
Shiryu could have some way to use observation haki to make himself undetectable via observation haki. so in conjunction with his devil fruit, he could potentially kill Mihawk via trickery

Luffy has an actual personal vendetta against Akainu, but not against Blackbeard yet. I think killing Shanks would set that up pretty nicely

Shanks doesn't need to die by blackbeards dirty hands.(which are a big part of aces death) Maybe like at lafftale shanks is kicking ass before some sneaky pos from blackbeards crew stabs him or something

Like I honestly don't think shanks is even close enough to Luffy to get luffy him that upset. It would only maybe be good for one fight. Not something like a life long hatred luffy has akainu for killing his brother in cold blood right in front of him.

Shanks is gonna be Luffy's Kite, we just don't know who's gonna be the one to kill him yet. Probably BB cause he has a misclassed devil fruit too. They literally are oil and water.

I feel like Ace was a very pivotal figure in Luffy's life, just like Sabo, but Shanks is a bit different. Luffy modeled his life and his ambitions after Shanks. Shanks is the one that inspired Luffy to be strong and set him up towards his life's goal of being the pirate king. Part of Luffy's ambition is just trying to give Shanks his hat back. Shanks gave up his arm for no other reason than to inspire Luffy to be the greatest. He could have easily beaten that Sea King but he made that sacrifice for Luffy. Shanks is definitely gonna be Luffy's Kite.

I do kinda like this idea. it could be that Shanks is a celestial dragon.

I also kinda like the idea of the red hair pirates and the straw hat pirates doing a davyback fight, and I think that's one of the things that could feasibly happen in elbaf

Remember that pirate competition the straw hats had where they almost lost Chopper? I think that's the kind of fight they will have against Shanks.

I don't think they will wager any crew members, I think they will wager the last red poneglyph. This will also be a good way to have Zoro test his swordsmanship against Shanks.

And for usopp to confront his deadbeat dad.
