I could imagine a "philosophy movie" that uses brief lectures and dialogues to make an argument or such, and I might like that more than a book.

But reading books you want to read is actually a great experience, you just need more patience.

most books are better than their movie versions easily due to more detail and it's usually as the author intended. Obviously movies are shorter

Isn't it true though? There is something about movies that books don't have. Also weird how you're ignoring everything books do have.

Also, the average movie probably creates more waste than the average book. But I guess there are more books. I don't think it's known for being a wasteful industry though, aside from the fact of consumption

Eh, a lot of what needs to be conveyed can be difficult for the movie depending on the book. Thats the problem with books like Dune, theres so much going on in that first book, that its nearly too much of a daunting task. Denis did a good job though.

Those are two examples that don't tell me much. Why is there no Infinite Jest or The Recognitions movie? Are they complicated to translate to film?

Just because a few movies are good it doesn't make every movie better than the book version. Terrible generalization and you know it. Anyway, I'm more likely to watch a movie than read a book. But books are usually the better experience for me. If you like movies that's fine but it doesn't make books boring. I don't get how you're going from A to B.

Not so. The Epic of Gilgamesh wasn't written in a book so that's proof that it doesn't take a book to write things down.

Sure, movies might be superior for some people, but that doesn't make books boring, dumb, or wasteful. They can be heavy though.

i didn't say or imply that writing can only exist in books

but who cares if a story was written on stone tablets or books, or spoken. it's the same language either way. books are just a manifestation of language and ideas
