Dude literally isn't even a chef; he has no business being so hostile. At least Gordon treats the contestants like what they are - normal folk trying to learn how to cook. There's a reason he doesn't blow up on Master Chef contestants like he does with the people on Hell's Kitchen - because they're not trained professionals.

His mother was a chef at least. I don't like how he glare at people. It's too obvious that he thought he's far above everyone else. Gordon might talk down to u a lot, but there's time where he showed some humility and his concern is more towards the customers he served and not being a narcissistic food snob who thinks he know it all about the food industry.

To Gordon's credit, he also respects the fact that a lot of the chefs on Master Chief are total amateurs. He's much worse on Hell's kitchen because they're all supposedly trained chefs.

Although there was that one episode of Hell's kitchen where one of the chefs burned her hand really badly, and Gordon actually took her place in the kitchen because he was so worried about her. Then he couldn't bring himself to fail her team because she was literally in tears during the voting stage, convinced they lost because of her.

IIRC his family isn't even ethnically italian, they just lived there for like 10 years >_>

I think he's trying to be the Simon Cowell of the show, but the problem is that Simon actually gives valuable constructive criticism when it's needed (if the other judges are too soft).

He's more amped up on Hell's Kitchen because he wants to put those Chefs under insane amounts of pressure as well.

He is a pretentious ass, but he rounds out the judging panel. His replacements are just whatever.

He really is. Normally I don't like the "getting angry" type of critic, but especially in Kitchen Nightmares, those establishments are fucking dangerous and appalling and you can tell that Ramsay cares a LOT about food safety; even more than the quality of the food itself.

Ramsay has also sent several contestants to culinary school on his dime or hooked them up with jobs under his restaurants or those of other well known chefs he's connected with

I mean he's a dick but he knows a ton about food and runs a bunch of successful restaurants IIRC

I started watching Australian Master Chief, it's crazy how much better it is. No dumb drama or judges acting like complete assholes. It's really just about the food, which is a lot more enjoyable to watch.

I think the idea was for Gordon to appear balanced in his critiques by having the other judges be the angel and demon on his shoulders, so Graham would soften the blows and Joe would go full tilt.
