Your best thing if you're worried about wall penetration is a 55gr (or lower) hollow point or varmint rounds. I run a 11.5" PSA AR pistol with the Magpul adjustable brace with Hornady frontier .223 55gr match hollow points. 40 round Gen3 Pmag. Streamlight polytac light with Magpul mount. Bushnell trs-26, has a battery life of 3500 hours so I just leave it on all of the time It isn't fancy but I can afford to practice with that ammo($10.99 for 20) so I know where it is going to impact at 10,25,100 yards, and the round has good fragmentation and expansion and isn't going to bust through drywall (not a problem for me anyway really). This was discovered during the 80s in the US joint arms small arms program in which the Beretta 92 won (the SIG p226 actually did the best). That being said I can shoot my 1911 as good or better than any of the guns I have that are more reliable. Also yeah a 1911 will last forever as long as you replace the extractor and recoil spring every 3-5k rounds.
