Calling's okay, I've just never gotten the hype for it. Practice isn't as good, even if it does have a catchy chorus.

Interwoven Stories is nice! Wish it had more of an ending tho. Umineko is Shikata at her finest.

SKR starts with a bang and goes nowhere. Revenge is a lot of fun other than the grimy sound.

Calling [8.2]
Practice Makes Perfect [9.2]

I used to think that I didn't care for Calling at all, but I think it's finally grown on me at this point. In this song alone, I can easily appreciate the singer's voice more than what I remember hearing from the NEO TWEWY soundtrack so far. The synths here are pretty neat as well.

Practice Makes Perfect was the last song I would ever expect to come out of Mario from the early 90s, yet it's incredibly fitting for the time. I'm secretly a sucker for 90s hip-hop/RnB/rap thanks to how I grew up, so this actually touches home in a way I wasn't expecting.

Interwoven Stories [8.5]
Umineko no Naku Koro ni [8.3]

I swear, Interwoven Stories is giving me huge "Windmill Peak from Hat in Time" vibes.

What people were saying before were right, did this Ar Tonelico song get lost or something?

SaKuRa [8.4]
Revenge [8.6]

SaKuRa is actually a Katamari song that made buddies with monkeys along the way.

Hello, second reason behind my recent "metal appreciation" awakening. The part that lasts from 1:36 to 2:00 is such an insane part that I really like. The song does fall apart a bit right at the end, but I'm on the rest of the ride for sure.

Calling
Umineko no Naku Koro ni
SaKuRa

I really like Calling and I've never quite been able to put my finger on why. (This is true of a lot of TWEWY music tbh.) I guess it's just a great feel-good song even if nothing about it really stands out on close inspection. What on earth is Practice Makes Perfect? This is one of those songs where I'm just amazed that it exists. It's also pretty good though and I feel a bit bad voting against it.

Interwoven Stories is a fine peaceful atmospheric track. I like the drawn out synth(?) and clarinet notes towards the middle of the piece, but ultimately this doesn't stand out to me too much. Umineko is far from my favorite Akiko Shikata song...but it's still an Akiko Shikata song which is enough here. Really pretty and interesting vocals the same as every Akiko Shikata song. In general I like her style for sections like 2:00 a lot more than sections like 2:20, and this song is a lot more weighted towards the latter.

Sa ku ra is another one I really like. Instruments are a great mix of catchy beats and energetic oriental instruments. The vocals are kind of detached but also have this bright resounding quality to them that makes it sound really cool. Big fan. Revenge is also a pretty good high-energy battle track with some cool melodies and screeching guitar parts, but it's not in the same league for me at least. Would have voted it in match 2 for sure though.

Calling
Interwoven Stories
Revenge

Calling 7 This song is like the definition of cool. I liked the background synth notes that remind me of the 80s. I wish there were more breakdowns or interesting lyrics, it kind of became bland and repetitive.

Practice Makes Perfect 5.5 I really enjoy the beat this song has. The rap verses also flow like butter. I'm not a fan of the main practice makes perfect chorus though, it just sounds like jazzy gospel, which seems out of place here.

Interwoven Stories 8 T-Todd Baker?? This song was already on my favorites list as I discovered Monument Valley 2 before VGMC. It's a beautiful soundtrack. I liked how the notes repeated and echoed into the abyss. I like how the bass and echoey notes trade off each other, like an intracate dance. Makes me think of a rhythmic pulse of raindrops in a underwater cave. My only complaint is it repeated the same melody for most of the song, i would have appreciated a shorter loop or more interesting variation.

Umineko no Naku Koro ni 4 Mega anime alert. It sounds cool when all the instruments synchronize together with the vocals in big bursts. There's not much else I like about the song, personally.

SaKuRa 5 A marriage between traditional japanese woodwinds and a funky club singer. The japanese voice is pretty but the rest of the song is just average to me.

Revenge 7 Everhood music is pretty solid. The metal guitar breakdowns get me pumped up and ready for battle. The second half of the track is interesting, it being slower and more "epic". It breaks up the monotony and cranks up on the intensity scale, but it also kinda breaks the flow. It improves the song overall i think.

Mario Teaches Typing (CD-ROM) - Practice Makes Perfect
Monument Valley 2 - Interwoven Stories
Super Monkey Ball: Step & Roll - SaKuRa

NFUN it was totally on you for routing Practice Makes Perfect to the pure neutral path! I understand not enjoying Far East/SaKuRa but I maintain the instrumental version is much better. This vocal is mixed on top of everything else and is not all too strong besides but the melody still rocks so hard. I think the only TWEWY song I have ever enjoyed is Three Minutes Clapping. Year of todd baker. These thoughts are extremely out of order sorry. Today's crop:

[9.0] Interwoven Stories
[8.5] Practice Makes Perfect
[7.0] Umineko no Naku Koro ni
[7.0] SaKuRa
[4.5] Revenge
[4.0] Calling

The World Ends with You - Calling
Umineko no Naku Koro ni - Umineko no Naku Koro ni
Super Monkey Ball: Step & Roll - SaKuRa

MATCH 1

Calling's a very catchy vocal song. Not much to say here, just a song that's definitely up my alley.

I find it funny that Practice Makes Perfect comes from a Mario game. It's cheesy hip-hop, but I like it. Calling's the clear pick, though, and much better representative of my tastes.

MATCH 2

Interwoven Stories is pretty cool! I don't often like very ambient songs, but this song does some nice melodic stuff that gets me into it.

Umineko (song) is my favorite song in Bracket B! Honestly, possibly my favorite song in the contest too?? Tough competition with some of my other favorites in the contest like Crocus, so hard to say, but definitely a contender! It's really hard for me to think of something like favorite composer, but from a technical standpoint, it's got to be Akiko Shikata. Her vocal work is insanely impressive. Not to mention the level of depth she adds to her compositions is something I really love too, and this song is just one of many great examples of this. This song was my first exposure to Akiko Shikata, and I was instantly hooked when I heard this for the first time. I don't think I was too into VGM as a whole yet, but honestly, you could probably trace my interests in that back to the visual novel genre planting the seeds and Umineko really helping it bloom. I only wish I explored her music further back then so I could get a head start on getting into Ar tonelico music haha. One other thing about this song, as well as many others she's written, is that I also love the folky sound to it.

Perfect / Interwoven / SaKuRa

Calling: Sirens wail in the distance as they navigate through the crowded sidewalks of an urban metropolis, skyscrapers and various signs standing out to them.

Practice Makes Perfect: The clacking of the keys of a keyboard being pressed near you incessantly invades your mind, annoying you to no end as you work.

Interwoven Stories: Floating past each other in a vast void, shapes, scents, and sounds shift and shuffle, creating a mosaic of sensory play.

Umineko no Naku Koro ni: A secret world full of dangerous tricks and tough mysteries exists deep within the imagination, shared between all living beings.

SaKuRa: Blooming flower petals waft through the cool spring breeze, their sweetness spreading love and harmony through the land.

Revenge: Driven by a fierce passion, your foe steadies their aim and takes a deep breath, channeling their fury into an intense energy to be directed back to you.

Interwoven = Umineko >= Practice = Sakura > Revenge > Calling

sorry everhood
