Found out there are some good builds you really need to prep for to get the best out of. Is it possible to complete both with any build even if you really screw it up? How about post game content?

I didn't follow any sort of guide or advice and was able to beat 11 without issues.

XI is fairly easy outside the superboss.

I want to believe this, but after playing the 3ds version they both have their strengths. I don't really care about the new characters, I didn't use them. But seeing enemies on the field, instant alchemy pot, and photo quest add a lot.

However I'm sure they nerfed the high limit slot. On the PS2 I could hit the 7s jackpot pretty frequently, once I hit it twice in 3 spins. On handheld I have spent hours in the casino and haven't come close to hitting big.

yes but i didn't get past the final boss in 8.
finished 11 without any issue.

XI doesn't need any real build focus unless you have Draconian Quests activated because it's the easiest one in the series

I think 11 respects your time more. They are both excellent. DQ 8 has Yangus, therefore the best main crew in the series.

Thats good cause I remember finishing 8 at close to 90 hours.

Which should be avoided. It runs at a locked 24fps, crashes a lot, and has a bug that can result in deleted saves.

Question about DQ8(3DS)

I played XI first, loved it. Played on Hard Monsters though and DQ8 just seemed really tame by comparison. Super simple and never struggled atall.

Is that like a 3DS thing only and was the PS2 version harder?

The PS2 version was a bit tougher. Especially in the early game, the first couple bosses were rough. Plus a pretty high rate of random encounters, some of which could easily wipe you out if you get surprised.

dhoulmagus was like the hardest boss in DQ8
not sure how he is on the 3DS but on the ps2 he would catch a player off guard because nothing up to that point had been as challenging

I did in 8. Fisticuffs Angelo, basically fighting with 3 characters lel.

Aside from that, you can fix anything once you find the secret metal slime spot

You can respec your skill tree in 11 so you can't mess it up.

Oof, wasn't aware of its quality (or lack thereof in this case), I just knew it existed, and I'd had a fine experience with the mobile port of Final Fantasy Tactics so I assumed a similar effort was made with DQ8's mobile port as well.

9 was for the Nintendo Ds and is really good but all its post game content can't be accessed anymore cause you needed access to the ds online store thing they doesn't exist anymore.

10 was for the Nintendo win and was an online mmo that was Japan only and never came over to North America.
They are making a single player version that will probably come over here

You can pay to reset skill points in DQ11

I do this even when trying to optimize my builds because some skills are better earlier than late and some paths suck early on but get massively better late in the game

Erik is a prime example of this. Turns into a late game monster iirc but youre definitely not going down the path that gets you there early

DQ is the simplest rpg designed to be playable by casuals and children, you'll be fine with anything.
