This is something that has bothered me even back when I was super conservative - this worship of the Confederacy as some kind of "true patriotism."

1 - The irony of the "Party of Lincoln" praising the Confederacy is not lost on me.

2 - The Confederates were traitors who took up arms against the United States. Their flag should be illegal. All their iconography should be destroyed.

3 - Obviously their symbolism is thinly-veiled extreme racism as well, and that too should be enough to consider it hate speech even without the former two.

But even with all that aside - taking up arms against the United States because of "states rights" was straight absolute bullshit - even IF you argue that it was due to "states rights". What did the Union do to violate "states rights?" Elected Lincoln. That was literally it. The South was upset that it lost an election and a pro-abolition majority took over Washington, and instead of doing what you're SUPPOSED to do in a Democracy and try to win back seats, they just betrayed their country.

They were traitors. Every one of them should've been executed or exiled from the country. Glorification of their generals as "gentlemen" is whitewashing what they actually did.

Nobody using the Confederacy's imagery nowadays is actually interested in the actual reasons behind why the Confederacy did what they did.

Its literally "Fuck the Police" but for Conservatives.

The sad thing is that if you ignore the politics, they were just being babies that as you said, lost an election.
They weren't popular and they lost and they sulked.
If you add in politics then they should have been branded as traitors

Abraham Lincoln wasn't even on the ballot in most southern states. The south was in a position where they had an absurdly little representation in the Government, and felt they were being taken advantage by the fat cats in the North. There's a ton of grey when it comes to what started the Civil War, it wasn't as simple as what this board keeps saying.

Plantations should have been been given to the slaves forced to work there.

Every ounce of the Antebellum south culture should have been demolished.

Yes, but in my experience the vast majority of the people I thought would stand up to Trump either directly fell for his b******* or at least were unwilling to stand up against it. The Republican party is dead to me.

I was already way against them before November 2020, but that was the final straw. There were literally Republican congressman texting in a panic on January 6th, saying Trump needs to be removed from office in private, who voted not guilty. That's unforgivable. As far as I'm concerned, that might as well be treason.

Bunch of hypocritical cowards who have let a disgusting misinformation Echo chamber take over the party, to cater to a bunch of extremist morons, and because they've allowed it that stuff is bleeding over into the mainstream GOP.

Yeah, I mean I'm not going to shit on the rank and file military dudes too much, they were for the most part just poor people, the same in pretty much every war every fought, who in theory were defending their states from invaders. They were fighting for a shitty cause and got killed for it like so many other soldiers throughout history.

The officers on the other hand absolutely knew what they were doing. Especially when you consider that the majority of them were officers in the Union army who resigned/deserted to join the Confederate military. Every last one of them should have gotten the noose for treason/sedition at the end of the war. The plantations should have been broken up and parcelled out to the freed slaves.

Though as Antifar hass pointed out it should be remembered though that being a traitor isn't always bad. The German Officers who tried to kill Hitler were traitors. The founding fathers of this country were traitors, the French Revolutionaries, Russian Revolutionaries, you name a revolution against an oppressive Government and by definition you've got traitors. What makes the Confederacy wrong in their sedition was the reason that they committed it.

While there are plenty of gray areas in history, the only thing gray about the traitorous pieces of shit in the Confederate States of America was their uniforms.

Worrying about the "cultural genocide" of a group of people who built their livelihoods off of ripping people apart from their homes, separating their families, and stripping them of nearly everything that makes them human really should be the final garbage opinion of Duncan that gets him removed from this site for good.
