It is mind blowing that our government basically did Fox News level propaganda on convincing people that this shit is okay and that we must live with catching SARS at least once or twice a year.

I'll still vote for him 24, but his handling of COVID was garbage. I can't believe when I see liberal Twitter claiming he "got COVID under control."

I mean, theres only two options here, catch covid 1-2 times a year and decide thats okay or catch covid 1-2 times a year and decide it is not okay. It is everywhere, spreads easily and rapidly mutates. Early on, there was the possibility of stopping it. Thats impossible now.

Data doesn't lie and data shows we are entering yet another surge in cases. They have this info and don't give a fuck anymore.

At this point, the best case scenario in the US is that the FDA stops being stupid and allows the vaccine manufacturers to actually update their vaccines every year.

There is a wide range of potential actions and outcomes between completely stopping it and completely letting it spread. Implying that people advocating for continued mitigation efforts do so with the goal of elimating COVID is a bad faith strawman argument at this point.

Some useful things would be fully approving Paxlovid and ensuring healthcare providers actually know about it. An emergency use for a specific subpopulation just results in far fewer people getting it.

Allowing vaccine manufacturers to update vaccines based on variants.

Companies having reasonable sick time policies so people dont feel like they have to go in even though they are sick.

People staying at home when sick.

For disease testing of incoming travelers, that has the most value when the disease being tested for is rare or non-existent in the country doing the testing and the least value when the disease is widespread.

With the way things are, we are best off assuming people will catch it and focusing our efforts on minimizing the severity once someone gets sick.

Sadly it occurred to me back in the spring of 2021 that the Biden admin was not going to have the balls to make the principled and far-sighted (yet unpopular) decisions necessary to get Covid under control. Every blunder past that point has just been beating a dead horse.

I mean, I can kind of see that because it's running rampant everywhere that may make it a little ineffectual to test international travelers, but it's only that way because we've dropped mitigation measures multiple times right before a known surge. There have been many repeated (obvious and heavily criticized) missteps that lead us to this point.

As for the bolded, I agree...but we aren't in a perfect world. You're also wanting businesses in the private sector to do the right thing versus the government PH departments doing their jobs.

It's all fucked. History books will not be kind to us. We allowed a virus that is known to cause organ damage and long term cognitive issues on a large scale go unchecked. Early onset dementia, childhood hepatitis, and increased risk of heart problems in asymptomatic cases isn't enough to convince people that you do not want this virus and the government gaslit tens of millions of us to accept that. People once criticizing right wingers for their selfish, maskless ways in the beginning now do and say the same things, almost adopting talking points word-for-word. And if it isn't that, they've adopted the mentality that they do not care about the immunocompromised or millions of kids that are unvaccinated.

The following is not my personal opinion, it is a fact; the US is packing 80k football stadiums, concert venues, and indoor arenas in addition to clubs, restaurants, bars, and airplanes. Mask and vaccine mandates and occupancy guidelines are virtually gone. People are back doing what they did pre-covid, with or without masks and vaccines.

Ultimately, there is nobody left to blame unless you want to blame damn near everyone in the country. I see masks here and there, sure. But the above paragraph remains. So how can you operate when virtually everyone has moved on? Ask yourself the following two questions:

Are you following all state, federal, and local regulations and rules governing covid? Yes.

Are you judging and shaming others for their personal choices provided they are still abiding by all state, federal, and local regulations and rules governing covid? No.

If your answers to the two questions above are not the two that have been provided in the spoiler text, then you are not behaving appropriately.

Follow the rules and don't force your beliefs onto others.

That's just the way it is at this point. No amount of internet yelling to a niche video game message board websight (or anywhere, really) will change that.
