I've worked maybe 15 hours since I started Chili's two weeks ago. I'm given excuse after excuse as to why I don't have a schedule yet, and they all keep promising to post one on my schedule page or text it to me... Neither one has happened. I have been off for close to a week with no signs of returning.

Noticed they had some shifts available for pickup, so I tried that and got approved for one, then a few hours later the same manager that approved it, pulls it from my schedule. I decided to bitch them out through their messaging system (no insults or anything like that, but I'm done playing nice), and I told them if I don't get a schedule very quickly, I am quitting. Also told them I was promised 35 hours a week and that hasn't happened either.

Of course, I doubt they care if I quit. No one has even *attempted* to get in touch with me, and I'm just brushed off every time I ask about a schedule. Fuck Chili's, don't work for them. You won't be working, and if you are, you'll just be sent home after 2 hours anyway.

They probably overhired and are throwing you under the bus because you're new. It's pretty common

That's happened to me before. Promised me 35-40 hours a week, after one week cut me down to 15-20 hours and are shocked when I bring this up and walk out.

Learn from what? I barely learned anything, because they aren't giving me opportunities to learn.

I pretty much get 4/5 hours a week at one of my retail jobs (they never guaranteed I would get more tho). There were also literal week+ I would go without working a single day there. They have a metric shit-ton of employees so I kind of understand that part.

My seasonal retail job said I would get 16 hours a week guaranteed and it's varied. Some of my weeks early on met that amount if not more, but now I'm only getting 8. They just don't have the hours to give now because they run out of a key part of their business.

That happen to me as well. I was trying to get out of my (now formerly) job at Dollar General due to the hostile customers and shitty management in the middle of the pandemic two years ago. I wanted to give a test run with Chili's before I leave to see if it fit my style. I started off as a Dishwasher so I can be away from people for awhile. A few hiccups here and there and the training wasn't great, but I try to make the best of it.

A month later, I was comfortable with leaving DG for Chili's, but I was suddenly reduce to one day a week. I try to get some answers of why, but the excuse I'm was getting was budget reasons. Three weeks later, I was off the schedule and I was quietly let go two weeks later. They didn't response to my inquires during this period.

So, yeah, FUCK Chili's.

On top of the above, It's possible they overhired so as to have a decent number of employees on rotation to prevent anyone from reaching full-time and having to pay benefits.

Sounds like they saw something they didn't like over a few shifts. I've had to do it to people myself, it's not really nice doing it but sometimes you have little choice.

Although I was in health care where fuck ups could possibly cause a disaster.

Well, I live somewhere it's dreadfully difficult to terminate someone's employment. You're looking at three months minimum just to go through the review process alone. It is both boon (protects you when you're in the right) and bane (makes it difficult when they're in the wrong).

Typically it's for people who have a habit of calling in sick for particular clients over an extended period of time that has a clear pattern. When you're dealing with potentially life and death situations there's 0 room for compromise.

I grew up (23 years) in Baton Rouge and Im backing this up 100%. If you live there and arent super connected, then you can really get stuck in crappy jobs and the service industry is not kind to the workers in BR. They also pay unlivable wages and Ive heard that its more than $1000/month for an apartment now.

I live in Chicago, and from what I understand, most service industry places are handing hours out like it's candy.

You get hired as "part-time" and you'll end up getting 40+ hours a week, and overtime is pretty much always guaranteed.

So many new places popped up after the pandemic, and existing places expanded like crazy that there's more work than people, so you get crazy hours.

I actually work in Zachary, and we live in Baker technically, but we are next door neighbors with Baton Rouge to the point where you can use either city as the address and get the same result.

I used to love going to Baker and Zachary. I actually lived in Central, so I could get to Baker, Zachary, or Denham Springs pretty easily. I think Central split from BR, though.
