No joke, it is a big deal for investors and shareholders. Its essentially fraud.

If Activision was lying about the number of titles sold in their quarterly reports to mislead investors you all would be crying but because its Twitter and Texas you dismiss it.

Companies shouldn't be able to lie to investors about the basis of their business model to prop up the stock price. But CE is going to be CE.

idk if that's an apt comparison.

with Twitter, even if there are a bunch of bots, it doesn't keep legitimate people from posting, or anyone from making an account.

obviously people using bots to spread misinformation or present some false level of engagement isn't ideal, but it's one of those intangible kinda things that feels pretty sus for an official to waste time and money on.

IMO.

Since he was indicted he shouldn't be able to pull some statute of limitations bullcrap when he eventually retires, right? I mean his replacement will keep that stuff in place to protect him if not but still. The corruption is fucking horrible.

Pity about the tiny little detail of not having any evidence that Twitter is lying. Kind of like the tiny little detail of not having any evidence of election fraud.

Its an investigationevidence gathering is literally the purpose.

Do you agree that public companies should not lie to investors?

Do you agree that government should regulate public companies or prevent fraud?

Why be against looking into this?

Paxton is a piece of shit but he keeps getting elected. Texans had a chance to vote him out last May against George P. Bush but they overwhelming voted for Paxton.

Paxton stole a $1,000 pen, cheated on his wife, has lawsuits filed again for the crooked shit he does and Texans just don't care.

Could be wrong, but I've seen it mentioned before that Elon Musk was already given evidence disproving this claim prior to agreeing to the sale and the only reason he's doing this now is because Tesla stock is tanking.

Regardless, it's a pretty slippery slope to go on when entire investigations with public resources are being done because one billionaire makes a baseless claim about a company he's planning to purchase.

I agree they shouldn't, but I don't agree that it should be a state AG's priorities to investigate - why do you believe this should be higher than other priorities?

Do you agree that government should regulate public companies or prevent fraud?

Yes, that's what the SEC is for

Why be against looking into this?

I'm against HIM "looking into this" because he has a history of "investigating" things that don't have a basis (election fraud)

There is no investigation. They have nothing but hearsay.
This is the same kind of faulty logic that Trump sycophants used in 2020 - that the mere accusation alone justifies an investigation. No, it doesn't.
They made a hell of a lot of accusations in 2020 - every one of them was either entirely devoid of details or were debunked with a simple Google search. And yet that alone has led GOP politicians TO THIS VERY DAY still claiming that the "fraud was everywhere".

Musk signed a contract and unless he POSSESSES direct evidence that Twitter lied to him, he has no case here. He has as much information now as he did when he signed the contract.
