Majority of reddit users are infact not people 25+ in the workforce. The zoomers are the ones who will show us what work has truly been done. Many millennials are already set in their ways and think "meh being exploited is just da weyy it is". But when it is time for the zoomers to take the reigns these companies are going be like "where all da workers at? Where all the new talent we can underpay!! These millennials threatening to quit if not given a raise but I go no out of college talent I can hire instead! NOOOO"

how is that even remotely true? lol They grew up with technology.

Zoomers seem less likely to stay in a job than older generations and move on to the next for better pay. They are the majority of the great resignation. At the same time, many feel self-entitled and expecting salaries of someone in the industry who has worked 5-10 years longer.

That's probably fair.

The long version is that blue-collar jobs that paid well has been wandering off since the 70s. Modern blue-collar work doesn't really exist, and the only real avenue for unskilled labor is McJobs that pay abysmally.

This is the reality. Millennials fought their fight and got nowhere so most of us accepted "things are the way they are" and moved on. As I said to TC before, just because I've moved on, doesn't mean I agree with the corruption. I've just accepted that we're all powerless and will never truly be able to change the system.

https://www.marketplace.org/2022/03/23/companies-still-say-they-cant-find-enough-workers-whats-going-on/

While the economy is recovering, the number of jobs still available has been a cause of concern for the Federal Reserve. Chairman Jerome Powell recently pointed out there were 1.7-plus job openings for every unemployed person. According to the latest data from the Labor Department, there are 11.3 million job openings in total.

So thats a very, very tight labor market tight to an unhealthy level, I would say, Powell said during a press conference after the Fed raised interest rates last week. Were hearing from companies that they cant hire enough people.

One job opening per job seeker is the ratio that would likely result in stable wages and prices, according to Jorgen Harris, an assistant professor of economics at Occidental College. We reached this ratio for the first time in 2018 (the government began collecting data on job openings in 2001).
Harris explained the Fed is concerned because when theres an upward pressure on wages, that could lead to an upward pressure on prices (the so-called wage-price spiral).

Labor economists and researchers say the lack of robust child care infrastructure, low wages, poor working conditions and the health issues associated with long COVID may be preventing some people from returning to work. Millions of Americans have also retired early in the last two years.

Overall, the quits rates are highest in sectors such as manufacturing, leisure and hospitality, and retail trade, as recently charted out by Nick Bunker, an economist for Indeed.

https://www.businessinsider.com/job-mismatch-impacting-hiring-challenges-during-pandemic-indeed-2022-2

Millions of Americans have quit their jobs and moved on to new positions. In the tight labor market and about two years since the start of the pandemic, some employers are still struggling to find talent.
Americans month after month are joining the Great Resignation. Workers might not be leaving the labor force completely, but they are searching for better jobs. Some have even thought about leaving simply because of conversations and news about this phenomenon.
But despite record-high quits, there are millions of job openings waiting to be filled each month. Employers are struggling to attract and keep employees around as Americans leave for other jobs where they could make more money, be less stressed, have more flexibility, or not be part of a toxic office.
As employees leave their jobs, businesses are saying they have few or no qualified candidates. While companies are competing to find talent, some businesses are having trouble getting applicants to even show up for interviews. One common explanation is that workers aren't looking for the types of jobs employers have on offer and potential employees lack the skills for the positions that are open.
But a new study from Indeed Hiring Lab suggests that the mismatch between potential employers and employees is overblown.
"I hear a lot of people say, 'oh, well, job seekers just don't want the kinds of jobs that are on offer. They want other kinds of jobs.' I hear that anecdote quite a lot," Tara Sinclair, a senior fellow at the Indeed Hiring Lab and author of the report, told Insider. "And I really feel like this report says that although there are persistent problems in terms of matching what job seekers want and what employers want, that's not explaining what's happening right now."
