In your opinion?

Seems like something a lot of people can't agree on.

Can stoners "Quit anytime they want"?

What does CE think?

I live in a legal state (both medicinal and recreational) and I use a dry herb vape to help with anxiety and sleep issues. I'm one of the unfortunate few that actually gets withdrawals when they don't have weed for a while. It sucks for two days but my body more or less resets itself and I'm good.

I have a few ground rules and boundaries I set for myself. I only vape at night and keep everything out of the way in a drawer.

It's definitely habit-forming if you have those tendencies, but I don't think it's addictive in the sense that alcohol or nicotine is.

It depends on what you mean by addictive. It isn't in the same way tobacco or heroin is. But as others have said there can be withdrawal symptoms when a heavy user quits. And some people can have some difficulty quitting, but that can be said about literally anything that brings pleasure.

It definitely can be. Its a little harder to become addictive than thinks like cigarettes, but that doesn't mean it can't be a real problem. Too many people think that Marijuana technically being healthier than something like cigarettes means it has no consequences whatsoever, meaning a lot of people overdo it.

If you're smoking a bowl or two every day, you might have a problem. If you can't go without smoking (which is definitely a real thing), there might be an issue.

But obviously the worst part of marijuana is weed culture. Throwing pot leaves on everything is among the tackiest **** we've really ever seen.

It doesn't contain anything that makes one dependent on it, but it's certainly something that seems to very easily trigger whatever causes generic addiction in some people. People seem to falsely think lack of chemical dependence means you cannot be unhealthily addicted to something.

It's scientific fact that it's not physically addicting, meaning no physical symptoms if you stop.

It is absolutely mentally addicting but mildly at worst.

Some people, like myself, get very pronounced withdrawal effects after quitting moderate to heavy usage. I would get light nausea, anxiety, restless legs, insomnia, major loss of libido and a strange numbness around my penis (I can still feel a pinch, but it will feel maybe half of what I would normally feel when I pinch my penis) and a major lack of appetite. It only lasts three or four days and isn't totally horrible, but isn't the most fun. Staying occupied and exercising the first two days helps a lot and makes it very doable to get over.

I mean, obviously. People give their entire lives to it, craft an entire persona for themselves that entirely revolves around smoking it.

It's just not gonna make you feel like you're dying if you stop it like heroin will. Or actually die like alcohol will.

Not to mention it becomes completely pointless if you smoke like, everyday like a bunch of stoners do and then just settle for a slight head change rather than anything resembling an actual high. Been there, done that.

Waste of money also. Shit ain't cheap.

As others have said, physically no.

Mentally, sure. It can be a crutch as anything can become a crutch. I'm 100 percent sure I was mentally addicted. When I wasn't at work or doing something important for the last few years odds are I was stoned. A few weeks ago I decided to take a break. Those first few days were actually slightly tough it reminded me of when I stopped smoking cigarettes. It was the same urges I got with cigarettes though, I didn't really crave the nicotine/marijuana, i craved the act of doing it.

But I know I have an addictive personality. It's why I don't drink that often and will never, ever, try anything harder than marijuana.

This. Ive had no problems quitting ever as far as my body reacting negatively.

What I think is addictive though is that dopamine from it. That happens with other things like social media, vaping, fast food, porn. Not specifically marijuana.

It definitely is lol, and this is coming from someone who likes it. But don't take my word for it.

https://nida.nih.gov/publications/research-reports/marijuana/marijuana-addictive

Go over to r/leaves and tell the thousands of people there that had a tough time that their experience is invalid because you either had a different experience, you're quoting science from the 90s, or you constantly feel the need to validate your DOC. Totally not suspicious, and you can definitely quit whenever you want.

I mean, not for me personally. Ive quit multiple times without issue. as a matter of fact, Im in the process of quitting for a bit right now. Last time I smoked was Tuesday afternoon. the worst thing that happens to me when I quit is that I cant sleep too well for the next few nights. like, maybe 3 or 4 hours of sleep. Its like the natural melatonin in my body needs to recharge or something lol

Mentally yes. Physically no. If I smoked everyday I'd get irritable if I had none. That boiled down to even if something was stressing me, just knowing I had something that would calm me down made things more bearable.

To be fair, marijuana is still under-researched because prudish America. The current evidence certainly suggests that it's not chemically addictive, but I've personally found it hard to quit cold turkey save lately. And that took a lot of doing.

Evidence is always preliminary and while I intend to follow the current empirical consensus on this topic, that doesn't mean that everyone who claims to have issues stopping cold turkey should be ignored, especially given the above.

Yup, same. I think thats the only bad part, personally.

Everything is addictive, or can be addictive, but with weed its a lot different. You dont see people itching for it or going out and robbing people to get their fix.
