They managed to make the post-ROTJ era so boring and uninteresting that nobody wants to see anything set in that time period.

Disney was a great fit for star wars on paper.

Do you really believe that? It should have gone to A24

It was a series with cute animals, muppet like beings, a classic battle of good vs evil, its all things that Disney has experience with in the past. They had experience working with existing intellectual property and making it resonate with fans. Overall Disney works best when copying off and improving existing materials rather than making stuff on their own. Coming off the Prequel Trilogy it felt like a well needed change.

It didn't pan out unfortunately but on paper it looked good.

It was the simplest thing they could've done.

Don't blow up the New Republic and treat the First Order as a terrorist/insurgent faction. (Which is apparently what they're supposed to be? But in the movies they're not effectively any different than the Empire) Reversing the roles of the traditional Rebel/Empire conflict could've had a lot of potential.

Then there was Luke. He builds a whole new Jedi school and that even gets blown up before the movie even starts.

What's even the point of having any of this shit if you're just going to trash it to do the same thing as before? The "rebels" are the plucky underdogs who are out-manned and out-gunned. The "empire" is Nazi Germany led by Wizard Hitler. The Jedi are a genocided religious group with a small handful of masters that have resigned themselves to lives of isolation.

It's the same goddamn thing lmao

Even Rian "Subvert Your Expectations" Johnson continued this shit when he doubled down on fucking over the Rebels resources, propping up the Empire to their OT level of power, and killing off a Jedi master. It's boring as fuck. >_>
