The more I think about it - this case does seem kinda questionable.

So the 40-year-old victim basically lied online to lure a 19 year old guy to their house. I can see situations where the 19 year old realizes he's been lied to, is in a potentially dangerous older stranger's house and isn't sure what's going to happen. It's easy to paint this story as a sort of "gay/trans panic" but the more you read it, the more it sounds like the victim actually could have been a predator. Not that we have enough information, of course.

The murderer went back to the house.

America is a scary ass place god damn. You can literally just go to someone's house, murder them, and say "I was scared" and get acquitted

Seems the victim had a history of victimizing young guys. Also, imo the kid went back for retribution. I don't feel bad for anyone here.

Just because both people did something wrong doesn't mean one of them deserved to die.

And yes, it's kind of creepy to get a 19-year-old to come to your house, but it's also legal.

Isn't that completely different than the cases of a twin pretending to be their brother or the person that thought they could get a vaccine through sex?

Definitely don't feel bad for the murder victim if everything presented about the initial encounter can be believed, but that's definitely murder no matter what. After-the-fact vigilante justice, even against rapists, should never be encouraged.

This is about where I stand. But I could see myself being livid.

If the knife was under the mattress....then how is it relevant at all to the case? Seems fucked up that he was acquitted. Looks more like a hate crime to me.

Sorry dude, but tricking people into sexual encounters that they wouldn't otherwise agree to if of they weren't being tricked or lied to is rape, full stop. Usually, when someone has just been raped, they're gonna be pretty upset about it. Upset enough to kill their rapist even.

That explains the flimsy defense holding up. If it were the same night when he was raped by deception, he would have been tried for a crime of passion but I'd imagine he'd still have a shot of acquittal. But a whole month later, that's just execution, I don't see how he wouldn't be convicted. If I were robbed and I confronted the culprit 1 month later and got into an altercation with his death, the odds aren't in my favor to walk scott free. There's no way the jury wasn't making a decision with that in mind regardless of it whether it was submitted to court as evidence or not.

The article wasn't clear to me, was it the second time they met up that Brown insisted they meet in the dark? Or was it just the first?

"Rape by deception". If you deceive a person on your identity to gain consent, that is considered rape. If you have a twin brother that looks just like you and you trick some girl into getting with you using his identity, she can press charges against you with this law.

I've never seen CE go so hard to defend a dude that was killed as a direct result of him having raped someone before. It's really weird.

He went back a month later and killed the guy. The initial rape was obviously not okay but it doesnt justify vigilante murder.

He was acquitted on the argument that he acted in self defense!

This looks like murder, but possibly manslaughter. The self defense claim makes no sense. How the fuck was that guy fearing for his life?

The jury acquitted him, but that doesnt mean he didnt do it.
